LG RH188S DVD/HDD recorder. 'Please wait' on display, no functions. Any suggestions ?

I tried to replace my DVD burner with a new one and then got into same problems as you. I think you have problems with the DVD burner... that it might be broken.

Mine is not broken, just not reading all dvd's like I want.

I have the same problem as well, mine is LG RH1858

I sent t the service center, and they returned it to me with note "internal socket disconnection". It worked after that 2-3 hours, then again showing only "please wait.." forever.

Display reads please wait

Replace all power supply's capacitors that are on the secondary.

This should solve the problem.

Problems starting up my LG RH188H

I had the same problem. After googling I found that the HDD might be faulty so I unplugged the device, brought it upstairs to unscrew it (to change the HDD for an empty new one). One last check before I really unscrewed the cover - and the recorder started again! After 5 minutes the 'please wait' returned. So, did the same thing again, tried a few times, and the recorder started. Then, I imediately reformatted the HDD, and the problem is now gone.
