The default code is 19. Pressing the setup button on the TL92278 and listening to the prompts will give you the default code 19 and the option to change it.
This come from a previous model than I have (mine is a ol5870), but seems to work for this one in retrieving messages from another phone.
Default access code is 0000 if you haven't changed it (but you should); when answering machine answer dial in the 4 digit code while the outgoing message is playing.
Once in dial 1,2, or 3 to play messages (mail box number I believe)
You can dial * for a help menu
4 Repeat a message 44 Ignores a message (message won't remote retrieve next call) 6 plays next message (skip to next) 7 Deletes message 8 Lets you record a memo 9 Let's you change the outgoing message (5 stops the recording) 0 Toggles answer on/off
dial the phone (use a cell for test run/practice) ...once you hear the
message press "*" (the asterisk key) and enter your 4 digit code (the
default code is 1234 or sometimes 0000) you really should change this,
this might have been done in the initial setup... read your manual for
the exact commands to be use after/during retrieving msg....

Hello,
Your telephone company should tell you how to retrieve messages. You may want to look in the introductory pages of the phone book.
If it is an aswering machine you have, the procedure is different: Every phone has a remote access code (on a sticker at the bottom for older models) or number set by default if phone has a digital screen. You find the default number when you configure the phone.
To hear messages when you are away, you dial your number and wait for the answering machine to activate. When you are instructed to leave a message, enter your remote access code and listen to the instructions. One option will enable you to hear your messages.
Hope it helps.
Remote code A remote code must be entered when operating the answering system remotely. This code prevents unauthorized parties from listening to your messages remotely. Store any 2-digit number (00–99). The default setting is “11”.

Note: To confirm the remote code, repeat steps 1 to 4. Press {OFF} when finished.
Call your phone number. After the greeting is finished and you hear the beep to leave a message push 123 on a touch tone phone and you will be given a list of things you can choose to do including listening to messages. 123 is the default security code unless the security code has been changed. Since you dont know how to retrieve messages Im assuming the default security code has never been changed.
If 123 is not the default security code and you dont know what the code is, you can change your code in the setup menu. You get to this by pushing the stop/set button on the answering machine and holding it for a couple of seconds. Since GE doesnt offer a downloadable manual for the 29878GE1 you should probably take a look at the manual for the 29875GE1 which is basically the same model with the addition of a digital message counter. Hope this helps.
