Ps3 won't pass through onkyo receiver

My receiver used to kallow pass through with my Ps3. Now it will not. I have reset both devices to no solutions. My Ps3 works fine when directly connected to my tv. I connect all components with hdmi cables. I have used different cables, different hdmi inputs. I've connected through game/tv hdmi input on my receiver with my tv hdmi cable and everything works. Use my ps3 hdmi, no signal.

SOURCE: No surround sound from my PS3 through the Onkyo 5100. Video OK

Unfortunately only the higher end Onkyo Reciever pass audio over HDMI for sound. 605,705,805,905 exc. Your reciever will carry Video over HDMI but you will need a digital optical cable for sound.

thanks.

Playing a blu ray disk on PS3 connected with optical cable to the Onkyo, I only get a PCM signal, no DTS or 5.1 (although this is available on the BD)

Hi there,

In theory, your receiver's decoder should be able to automatically "detect" the incoming audio format. But, this only occurs if the device playing the disc is sending the correct audio format.

So, with this said, there should be a fun tion on your PS3 where you can manually select either Dolby 5.1 or DTS 5.1. Both of these are opposing formats (i.e. can only output one format at a time).

If you were to play a movie disc from a standard DVD player into your Onkyo receiver, you would normally have to manually select DTS 5.1 audio from the disc menu.

Does the PS3 menu allow you to manually select the audio output?

Hello what is the best setting for ps3 slim when played through onkyo 608 pcm or bitstream at the moment it is saying multichanel on the amp if i change it to bitstream it says on the screen some audio...

Bitstream will pass the HD digital audio directly on to the receiver, in either DTS or Dolby format. This allows your receiver to decode these formats. The Onkyo TX-SR608 is capable of decoding all the new HD audio formats, and has quality Burr-Brown digital-analogue converters so it would be a shame not to use bitstream in my opinion.
Electing to output the sound as PCM will utilize the PS3's internal digital audio decoding, and I believe output a two channel analogue signal... which your receiver will then reprocess into simulated surround sound... not ideal really.

Toslink and 7.1 surround

For you to process 7.1 you need another pair of speakers. Your setup is 5.1 If you want to see some different 7.1 setups just google images of 7.1 speaker setups. Seeing it it easier than explaining it. Hope this helps

Unsure of audio setting using Onkyo TX-SR606 connected to PS3

The PS3 should default to the DOLBY DIGITAL sound output so your ONKYO should be setup to the Digital input, TV logic is a matrix similated multi-channel and I doubt if any PS software is in the DTS audio format, look at your game software disc`s and they will inform you of the audio capabilities.

Can someone tell me what the audio setting on the Onkyo TX-SR606 should be when the PS3 passes the signal as full multi-channel. My receiver always seems to say something different i.e. Dolby Digital or TV...

If you're running an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver, best quality would be through the Dolby Digital, because that broadcasts in 7.1 HD Audio Format. There should be a way to get a default setting when the optical input is detected in your receiver.

No audio from my PS3 through the Onkyo 5100 7.1

if you are using an HDMI cable dont expect sound to come out (even thought HDMI carries both audio and video) the onkyo HT-s5100's Receiver is the HT-r560. the 500 models of the onkyo receiver does not allow HDMI to carry both audio and video. it only allows the video signal to pass to the receiver.

if youre using optical for audio w/c is what you need then these are the steps you need to follow.
*first make sure that the optical connections are ok at the back of the receiver.
*make sure that your DIGITAL INPUT is set to either OPT1 or OPT2 whichever optical input you used to connect the optical cable.
*then go to your PS# settings : go to sound settings / audio moutput settings/ select digital out (optical).

then enjoy.....ü

No DTS-HDMA or Dolby TrueHD shown on display

DTS-HDMA and Dolby TrueHD cannot be passed to your receiver via bitstream on the PS3. DTS-HDMA cannot be decoded either so you're out of luck there.
Dolby TrueHD can be decoded internally on the PS3 assuming your firmware is up to date. Set the Blu-ray HDMI output to PCM and you can then pass it to your receiver.
If this doesnt work, do a system update on your PS3.

Ps3 defaults to 576p when connected through onkyo 606 receiver

You have to tell the PS3 what the Okyo can do and it probably cannot do 1080P 60Hz (but can likely do 1080P 24Hz).  Try ticking more resolutions in the PS3s setup
