Phone has to work, so do u need and external power supply or how does phone turn on ?

i do have only one phone which i wanted to get working. i am not sure where to plug it in to get display.
Can i plug it in to the phone jack ? Do i need to buy anything else to get it working ?

It plugs into an xICS or BCM cabinet. Do you have other phones like it, or are you trying to make one single phone work?

I thought it was a pretty clear answer. Guess not. The Nortel phone is a SYSTEM PHONE. It plugs into a Nortel SYSTEM which powers the phone. The small and earlier cabinets may not have the software to make a 7324 phone work. Here's an example

How do I connect the Norstar M7324 telephone to an expansion set?

Your expansion box is a CAP (central answer position) module. I will assume you are using the same jack as before. The line cord, from phone to jack should be 6 conductor (count pins on end). A short line cord runs from back of phone to back of CAP (plugs on CAP are labelled) then the longer cord runs from CAP to the wall jack.

Our receptionist's M7324 switches to handsfree mode even though she has used the handset to answer the call and still has the handset off the hook. What can I do do fix this problem?

Sounds like the handsfree button might be stuck down. Try slightly pulling up on the button and see if that changes to the handset.
