Its not necessary to purchase a new router. Nintendo DS supports WEP encryption. You wont be able to connect if the encryption on the router is WPA. Your computer can connect on both WPA and WEP so what i suggest is for you to access the router page then check the wireless settings then change the encryption to WEP so that your Laptop and DS can connect at the same time. To access your router check the manual for the username and password
Once its connected you will have the blue light in the belkin router
1.Turn on the wireless switch in your laptop
2.Click on start menu--->control panel--->Network and internet--->Network and sharing
3. In the right hand side click on "Change adapter settings or Manage network connections"
4.You will see the wireless network connection
5.Right click on wireless network connection and click on Connect/Disconnect
6.you will be able to see the network name, try to connect it.
7.it will be connecting and then connected
8.try to able to go online in the laptop
on the hind side of the modem how many ports do you see my guess one port slightly seperated and named INTERNET or WAN and four more ports numbered 1,2,3,4
now connect the network cable from the modem to the WAN / INTERNET port and connect the laptopand PC to the ports1,2
now check to see if there is connection to only on Laptop or both
but if you have conection to only the laptop/PC connected to port1 then try this small trick
move the laptop to port 3 and in port 1 connect the cable from the modem which was connected to the WAN / INTERNET port
The procedure is 1st. to connect the LAN cable to the router (not to the LAN port marked WAN) and use the browser to configure the Belkin router for the wireless settings.
In the wireless setup change the SSID from the default SSID to what you like., set up encryption (if your wireless card supports WAP then use WAP encryption, if not use WEP 128bit)
Also change the administrator password (write it down and put it in a safe place).
you can disconnect the LAN cable from the computer and router.
If you had not installed the wireless driver for you wireless card, do so now.
Connect the LAN cable to the WAN port on the router and the other end to the Hughesnet.
Now configure the wireless card with the SSID and the encryption that was set on the router.
If all goes well you should see your router and get on to the Internet.
Get back to me with error messages if you have problems.
nope...
your desktop can also go onlie using the wireless belkin router,so this router will now act as a distributor, you need to setup the router between the modem and the computer that is wired,i hope that when you say modem it is the one provided to you by your internet service provider, what you need to do is to conect the modem to the router and the router to you desktop computer, you desktop computer will go online using the wired connection to the belkin rotuer and you laptops will use the wireless connection..
Did you save the IP addresses ?You may have to configure the router manualy go to your network ,settings or type in run box IP config and see whats going on
Go to the Belkin support section at their website: http://www.belkin.com/support/
Look for your model router and download the "firmware" upgrade for it. Once you go install the up to date firmware try to give the router a reset. Hopefully doing all that will get the router working again and you connecting to the Internet.
more information please What operational system is used (laptops and desktop) Is the DHCP turned on? Is there LAN connectivity between desktop and laptops?
