Hi if you mean every time you stop the car by key and the car will only keep going if the key is in the start position this is a fault that lies in the low tension circiut on your ignition as a secondary circiut with a ballast resistor runs ignition live feed to the coil when the key is in start position these are now normally in the ignition coil it will need replacing

2003 chevy silverado body control killing batteries

you lost DC power, the main battery is dead.
no list of good and bad, just bad.
DC power goes to VAST things, in all modern cars even 10x more.
so all things good and bad matter.
engine dead. will not crank or start or run
head lamps dead, or dim, key on and off.
blower dash (heat?) dead. on all speeds for sure high.
dome lamp dead
windows dead, door locks dead.

what to do, when DC fails for sure the engines stater motor dead.
making car useless.
  • check fuses first.
  • check battery voltage 12.6vdc rested never 10v or below.
  • jumper cable crank start the dead engine,
  • runs now, if yes check battery again, 13v to 15vdc below is bad dead alternator (or its fuse, ore belt fell off/slips)
  • a bad battery ca n cause modern cars ALternator to go off line to prevent battery rupture (flying acid doomed)
  • scan the car key on,see DTC errors like (fuse blown or battery dead errors)
  • that is it for this far, a voltmeter finds it. easy used.
  • one more, if IMMO lamp is not happy ,engine can not run.

Hi I need a wiring diagram for the harness 91 Ford festiva L

the manual has like 100 schematics, nobody will post them all,
why not just ask 2 things , why does it fail and what are the causes?
or OMG what tests find it, like shop does.?

won't start means what
does not crank
or
cranks fast and but will not start the engine and run.
check fuses first
scan the PCM to see why, like shops do or even you.
91 is very old car, now.
car ran for 30 years, and just failed now? no story here.
found it for free or in a barn dead , tell the story there is one.

if the starter is bad dead silent , there are like 4 major caused
but engine dead I have over 20 tests to find it.
not told what the starter motor does key on crank/start position.
does car have an alarm on it. failing
does car have those silly remote start kits put on it.
full stop, no real clues told so I stop'

2008 Dodge Nitro problem starting when engine warm.

Question edited for clarity and spelling 'worm' to 'warm'.
Question moved to Model category.

Larry gives the perfect answer as always.
  • ALL FUSES test good, and IMMO lamp reads good?

no engine told at all and is and engine problem. and has gas or diesel engine, omg not the same at all
warm not WORMs, rats eat wires but not worms, LoL.
this failure is called in tech/engineers world
as HOT SOAK FAILURE, most times spark dead.
    that stator always works right
the cars starter motor cranks load and fast we all that robust cranking even does 300 rpm .

so is not a start run problem it is a dead silent starter the only clue to me is the jumper wire, wow.

    The PCM controls 3 relays
ASD relay and Starter and fuel pump relays.
so if really did hot wire real starter relay them means the PNRDL is bad.
    got automatic transmission.????
    got what engine.
\USA car, sorry cant guess cars, drivelines ever.
do you have the security system OEM on this car
and the IP cluster lamp same name is NOT HAPPY as the users manual tell you.
got both keys to Ignition car new provide
or lost one if both try them both?

    guess #2 automatic trans
does the starter motor spin in P and N
both must work and P fails long before P
    so we try both .
the starter relays is controlled by
1 computers, not just one and the PRNDL switch.
    I have the schematic here.
PRNDL shows what gear it is ,
wrong selection is made the PRNLD tells first
the PCM, and if PCM is happy
the PCM click (energizes) the Starter relay
the MTIP module contains the relay and can fail too.

if the IMMO fails , it may not crank. or can cuts spark.
if the starter does work the ASD can cut fuel
if the PCM sees any kinds kinds of bad spark.
spark coils dead, CMP dead CKP dead
to prevent fires. it cuts fuel dead.
    so does IMMO./

if you scan the PCM it tells you why it cuts those relays. if you had done that.

learn to check all fuse first
    then scan it
and if the starter motor fails say it will not crank or the starter motor is silent.

Will the relay fuse in a 2001 Azteck stop it from cranking

great question, sure , all cars with relays for start or ECU/EFI

not start, but only those with starter relays, cut cranking.

some cars have a IMMO that cut cranking, there is no rule

only what IS, matters, and that is clearly shown in call cars FSM.

and can very by, guess what, the engine option.

azteck? IS THIS SPELLED CORRECT.?

A CAR PONTIAC ASTEK (no c)

Pontiac AzteK?
OR SOME MOTOR SCOOTER?

WE HAVE NOT A CLUE, UNTIL YOU SAY

MY CAR XX

MY SCOOTER XX

MY MOTOR CYCLE XX

OR MY ATV OR ????

Do please tell us what and Azteck is, google nets me ZERO.

so do tell .

and do tell the maker, if not AZxxxx?

i ill pretend its a pontiac... best wild guess.

2001 and look at all engines, not stated.

your car does have a relay marked 58 CRANK.

there are 3 permissive\'s. (logic here)

1: the tranny must be in PARK/neutral and IGN1 main fuse good

2: Fuse 35, IGN2.

3: and PCM wants to let you crank , the PCM does the crank , you only request cranking. by key actions.

The pcm might block cranking for secuirty reasons or IMMObililzer options on car, and they both had dash lamps telling you THERE STATUS. so look for them and read the lost operator guide on how.

why not post symtoms and ask for help.

and not guess at causes first.?

lots of cause.

if the starter dont crank, what to do.?

1: check (test) all fuses. if no fSM or alldata.com

2: car battery charged to 12.6v and cable ends clean,

does car jumper cable start.?

3: do the dash lamps "warings" tell you WHY, IMMO or security lamp glowing saying, IM NOT HAPPY?

4: wiggle gear shifter or try to crank in neutral? while cranking?

5:are anything else dead, like head lights, check EVERYTHING.

Car will shut off wont drive but engine keeps running then battery will go dead

It sounds as if your Ignition switch is damaged, or, you have a bad relay that is sticking. To check the Ign. Switch, remove the covers on the steering column to gain access to the switch, unplug it and the engine should stop, when it's running. If it's just cranking, it should stop when you unplug the switch. If it does, then the switch is the problem. The relays you'll have to troubleshoot individually with a test light.

If only the starter continues to crank after shutting down, then you need to test the solenoid on the starter as well as the starter relays and the Ign. switch to determine which is causing the current to continue to the starter.

Car wont turn over when started

When you turn the key to full electrical power (right before you'd crank it), do you hear a hum from behind you? It'd be the fuel pump, and it should run for a few seconds. If it does, and you have no cranking when you turn the key, check the starter relay - if it's shot, it won't allow power to the starter, and the car won't crank. If you don't hear the hum, check fuses and relays for the fuel pump first, and if they're OK, you may have a dead fuel pump.

Cooling fan

i would deff check the relay i had a problem with my relay going out on my 04 but i just ran my fan to a togle switch so i can turn it on and off when i want it on when im in dead stop situations like traffic and also when your ac is on the fan has to be on or your ac will cut on and off to keep your car from really over heating in a hurry if your not moving, but i also run my car at the track and it helps to keep it cooler when racing down the drag strip.
