Warning doesn't ding when lights are on and key fob only unlocks some time

The lights stay on but the warning doesn't sound when we take the key out of the ignition. Also the key fob only works some times. It doesn't matter distance, it's just random. Sometimes the key locks all doors except the drivers also. Lastly, the lock button on the door sometimes doesn't work. Are these sensors possibly related and can I possibly fix any of these issues on my own? Thanks in advance

SOURCE: 2003 Jetta TDI - Door locks open fuel door

Look for a short in the wiring harness in the door. The wires from the door lead to the convenience module (controls the doors and windows and some other settings including remote fob) that is under the dash. It sounds like some wires are crossed. VWs are also notorious for having problems with window regulators. They make the windows go up and down and are in the doors. Something might have happen to that and it cause a short. VW just extended the warranty on the window regulators to seven years because of these problems so you should be able to take it to a dealer and not get charged (this is in the U.S. at least, don't know about the rest of the world). The extended warrranty was not limited to original owners but you might want to ask the service people about it first.

FixYa.com claims they have factory repair manuals, they have nothing of the sort, this is not to say some experts may have manuals, we do, but we work from home and in most cases have a small library. Experts are not employed by FixYa.com, we help free of charge as much as we can with the general automotive knowledge we have learned while working as auto technicians, specific test values, repair procedures and illustrations are unique to each car line, these are not in most cases available to us. Changed battery terminals and now dinging wont stop unless warning light fuse removed

It sounds like it thinks the key is still in it all the time. Try turning the key forward to the on position, but not running, so the dinging stops. disconnect the battery. Remove the key completely and reconnect the battery.

Warning light on rpm gauge

The light you see is a security light. Usually it shows up when the security system is armed. If the light stays on then I would suggest getting in the car and closing all of the doors. Then press the lock button on the key fob. Then unlock the car with the key fob and it should go away. Try starting the car afterwards to see if the light goes away if it doesn't when you unlock the car with the key fob.

My 2006 Buick Lacrosse warning light started dinging while I was driving and the seat belt light for passenger seat started flashing even though there was no one in the seat. After stopping the car I...

It sound like two or three separate problems, but it's hard to tell. The seat belt warning could be a faulty switch which senses a passenger in the seat, while the trunk lid opening could be a battery problem in the key fob. However, if the door locks still work with the same key fob, the problem is more likely with the lock on the trunk. Not starting after stopping could be a battery problem.

I have a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country and I just changed the battery. It now dings when the door is open with the lights off and keys out of the ignition. Whats wrong?

Changing the battery is probably just coincidence to the key warning.
The key warning alarm (ding, ding ding sound) is supposed to only happen when the key is left in the ignition and th e door is opened; to remind you to take the keys out.
However, over the passage of time, dirt can articulate in the key way and cause the warning switch inside to stick and cause the alarm.
Try this:
  • With key out, tap or rap on the steering column with your hand. This might jar the switch loose (This is commonly referred to as "get a hammer" method-joking)
  • Try spraying some silicone lubricant into the key way and working the key back and forth to see if this clears the switch.
Please post a comment here to let me know if this worked, ok. Thanks J

one of the door/van loading door switches has failed it thinks a door is open so the the interior light stays on and the door open warning will ding the interior light should have a switch to disable it or take out the bulb but you cant stop the dinging until you find the faulty latch switch and fix it

Starts fine but when switched off will not start for 10 mins or so, cranks over but does not fire[94 4.0 jeep cherokee]

You are probably unaware that your jeep has an aftermarket keyless entry system....Try this....roll down the drivers window....push the power door lock......get out/close the door...and attempt to open the door as u normally would.......it should be locked...... use your key to unlock the door....get in.....insert the key into the ignition and turn it to on...((((DON"T TRY 2 START IT UN TILL THE WARNING BELL STOPS DINGING & ALL THE DASH WARNING LIGHTS ARE OUT)))...........usually 5 dinging sounds.......at any rate just wait untill the sounds stops and fire up your jeep.....i hope this works for ya.....good luck
