If this is the first and forth LEDs then i was told by a Hotpoint engineer that this means 'heater cut out due to overheat' and that probably the heater is just covered in limescale. If that is the case then running a descaler through the dishwaer on the highest setting should fix the problem and clean the inside of your machine to boot !
I guess this would happen if your machine is a few years old and you live in a hard water area.
I had an identical problem with the salt and rinse aid lights on the left and the drying and end lights on the right flashing shortly after switching the dishwasher on. When I pulled it out, as this was the only way to look at the pipework, I noticed a big kink in the water hose. Removing this and obviously sorting out the flow problem has resolved the issue.
sounds like you may not be getting enough water.it will stop if water is in short supply.this may be if you are running washer at the same time.or running a bath.if hot water is in short supply, this maybe a hotwater heater problem.have you been running out of hot water when showering or bathing?
My machine would not always set properly and various lights went on and off without reason or stayed flickering. I phoned Hotpoint as like you my warranty was finished. They told me to switch off the machine and unplug at the mains. Leave for 10 minutes then plug back in and switch on. It re-booted the control panel and last night I was able to set it properly. If it doesnt work for you I suggest you phone Hotpoint customer service (number of website) and ask if there is anything else you can do to solve the problem yourself before you pay for another service call. Failing that buy a new one!!
Control panel which is a bit sensitive might need re-booting. Mine did the same and had a mind of its own, doing what it wanted, lights flashing all over the place, not completing the wash etc etc.
Switch off the machine and unplug from the mains. Leave for 10 minutes.
Plug back in, switch the machine on to your required programme and if ,like me, you are lucky, your machine should work again. If it happens again in the future you know what to do. Failing that go to the Hotpoint website, find the customer service number and ask if there is anything else you can do yourself to solve the problem, before paying for a service call. They are really helpful
