E-5 error code and no draining or rinse cycle machine less than 3 months old

I have a Hobart lxih sanitizer, and is used at least 5-10 times daily. the washer does not drain when shut off and does not enter the rinse cycle. All that is seen is E5 and a wrench... help!

  • Anonymous Nov 17, 2008

I have the same problem, My LXi is supposed to run a wash cycle in 85 seconds, but often takes more than 3 minutes. It will pause for 10 seconds, then continue the wash for another 30 seconds. Then it will pause again for 15 seconds, then display the E-5 and a wrench. When I power down the machine, it does not cycle out. When I push off, it just goes blank. Any ideas?

E5 is a drain error - machine is not draining - check drain hoses - pull out machine if needed - check air gap. hope this helps. jimmy.

I had a Hobart Technician come out and service my LXi. He first went after the power board, the control panel for the whole system, but the problem was simpler and cheaper. By replacing the probe inside the sanitizer, the system worked fine.

I know, how could a probe effect the drain system, right? I have no clue. But that was the solution to this problem for me.

What is the probe inside the sanitizer? Do you mean the probe in the sump?

Probe in the booster is what I believe they mean.

Hobart LXeC under counter bar machine, it feeds detergent and Rinse Aid at the start up together.

This is a low temperature machine. So detegent and sanitizer go in together and the rinse aid goes in at the rinse cycle. At the lines in the right containers. It is pulling sanitizer at the rinse cycle?

Page 11 of the manual leads me to belive it may be priming. Do you have non return valves in the lines of all the product? Your lines should be full of chemical all the time with no air spaces.

Your detergent supplier, Hobart, Ecolab, Diversey will often help with issues like this for no charge. Don't let them play with metering though. That is an old trick to get the salemen more sales. ;>)

After pressing On - the dishwasher just sits are about 80 degrees and doesn't get any hotter when normally it goes up to about 118. Can we still use it to wash or is something wrong?

A hobart LXIH-3 uses a chemical to sanitize however a 120 degree wash temp is required as well.

Turn up your hot water tank that supplies the dishmachine, make sure your sanitizer is pumping into the rinse cycle using micro-clorine test papers and all is well.

I have a three year old Hobart. I am not sure

Look on the top edge of the door to find the data plate. It sounds like an SR24, if the leds are on the left of two temp gauges. If your sanitizer pump has a tired silicone tube that is flattened from use, it will not draw chemical. if you have an air bubble in the sense board at the back, it will think you have run out. If you have changed the type of chemical or diluted it, the board will need recalibrating to suit. Put some sanitizer in a small vessel with the pickup tube and monitor the amount delivered. Usually one is looking for 50 ppm solution of bleach and rinse water.( test with litmus paper) If you have an SR24H with a booster, you don't need bleach sanitizer and holding the sanitizer button will turn the sense off.

Hobart LX30H washing to hot.

what temp is it washing at. washing should not be the problem. This machine is designed to rinse at 180 degrees + to sanitize dishes. The machine could be converted to a chemical sanitize, it would use bleach in the rinse water instead of 180 degree water to sanitize.

Hobart LXIH displays P2

The rinse thermistor is bad, look on the back of the machine to the right and you will see 2 black wires with a plug that screws into the vac breaker this is the probe.I bet when the dishwasher goes into the rinse cycle the temp jumps all over, let me know.

Odd operation

This unit is a sanitizer, not a full fledged dishwasher. It is designed for restaurants and bars where the primary use is washing glassware. The behavior you describe is normal for this model. The manual can be found at the following link:
