When that happen try going into the device manager area >>> start >>>
control panel >>>system >>> hardware tab >>> device manager , now notice
your usb controllers area , its mostly likely open and if so ? See if you notice a little yellow exclamation mark http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exclamation_mark by it , if so , right click on it
and select delete , then highlight your computer name http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naming_scheme on the very top of the
devise manager , select " Action " and then select " scan for hardware
changes , at this point your compute should now notice your usb devise , by
the way make sure when you are performing this that your usb devise is plug
in , See if that helps.

megabits is smaller
if you want to back up 2.83 gb get a usb flash drive
get a 5gb unit
usb sticks (flash drive) rated at 5 gb will hold 4.5 gb of data as the rating is the total capacity but all flash drives require a small amount of space to work so the actual amount of data capacity is always less than the stated size on the flash drive
the capacity rating is-- smallest to largest --bytes, mega bytes , gigabytes, and terabytes
click start control panel administrive tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties then security select take full control in windows 7
USB drives can be write-protected by modifying the StoreageDevicePolicies Registry key and WriteProtect Registry value. click Start>run>regedit to open Registry Editor. and press control+F to open the find dialogue box and type "usb device" or "driverdesc" to open usb mass storage device or type "usb mass storage device" in the search windows. And right click on it and delete. This will set the policy value to 0. then insert your usb device. It will work fine. # Remember: do not delete any unknow files in the registry as this will make some programes not work as usual.
also If you are running a Windows XP OS then you might be able to:
- click start right click on my computer select open - Right click the icon of your Flash Drive (It should be F:/ or something) - Click Properties in the menu that comes up - Click the Sharing tab - Click permissions - And finally, click Allow next to Full Control.
It sounds as if you have an SD card reader, not an SDHC card reader. While SDHC cards will fit into SD slots, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. SD devices are limited to cards 2GB and smaller. SDHC cards begin at 4GB and go up to 32GB.
This typically means the drive has gone bad. Try reformatting the USB drive. Some manufacturers also provide diagnostic/formatting tools on their website that might be able to fix it. But likely it will need replaced. Lucky 2GB USB drives now only run $7.99 or less.
1. plug ur usb flash 2. run Formatter v2.9.0.9.exe 3. follow the instruction and wait for the format (might take 5min for 4GB) 4. after complete, may the small volume (about 2MB...here the solution 5. plug your usb flash on other computer and format like regular (make sure u untick quick format) and click on "restore device defaults" then click format 6. now your usb flash drive was like a new one
Problem can be tricky.. though i offer my two cents.
1. some BIOS have upper limit of hard disk capacity. check that out. try connecting IDE device to IDE connector in same comp and see if it is being detected properly.
2. seagate guys are true .. IDE to usb conversion can be tricky ... a lot depends on card convertor.
my advice would be if you have precious data on it ... first take a backup of it, if possible connecting the disk to nomal ide connector.
Sounds like it's fried. Pen drive sometimes go bad, especially is they are pulled out of a machine without stopping it first. Not much you can do, sorry.
