Vertical collapse - Sanyo DS31590 31" TV

  • Anonymous Oct 29, 2011

This is more like a vertical foldover. I get a single thin line in the middle of the screen from side to side. Audio is fine. Has this issue with another tv some years ago and it was a capacitor. Problem here is I dont have the schematics for this TV so if someone has an idea which caps to check that would be great. Thank you

Yes you are right , the fault is a failure of the verrtical output. Now this can be related to a failure of the sync pulses, the vertical drive to the outputs. If you have a scope you can trace to confirm as this circuit is not available. Ideally the other way is to replace or even with the set switched on - with care- use the right value capacitors in parallel on the vertical side and the fault will clear if there is one faulty. Otherwise it can also be a fault in the vertical driver or the deflection coil, check solder joints on the output.

Vertical amplifier?

Your right, it's called "Vertical Collapse", it's caused by the vertical output IC, which may be dry jointed or failed, try applying new solder to it if you can, if that does not work, you will need to replace the IC. A simple test to test for dry joints (where the solder is cracking and not causing proper connection from the pins to the board). If you give the unit a bit of a hit you may see the picture return to normal... don't do this too often as you can make more damage.

Bright line coming in center of screen

Hi Shailendrar , your problem sounds like vertical collapse , the whole picture has collapsed into a thin , very bright centre line ? maybe the result of dry solder joints , does banging on the side of the tv temporarily fix ? if so , the circuit board requires inspection for bad solder joints . Alternately the vertical chip/transistor may be blown , replace as required. Cheers T

Mitsubishis TV Problem

have a Mitsubishi TV 1993. Model CS-35301. The problem is that there is a white line that is running through a blank screen. The sound is fine just no picture. Have you heard of "Vertical Collapse?" I would love to save the TV. Hi nothing to worry just minimise brightness to avoid screen burn. "Vertical Collapse?" means one bright hor.line in the middle of screen. this problem can be solved 1 check vertical yoke connector or wire loose 2 check supply to vertical section which normally comes from EHT transformer check components in vertical section or print loose regards thanks
