if it does not go all the way across the screen, may be the buffer board controlling that area. you can usually visually check for burnt/overheated parts, then replace that particular buffer. could also be X or Y sustain PCB depending on whether it is vertical or horizontal.Again, you might do a visual for burnt/overheated parts on the particular PCB & replace either parts or PCB.
Lastly , may be panel....not cost effective.

Three kinds of detects count for this problem. It could be the Logic board, or the Logic Buffer board, or the PDP panel. Just drop your tv to the warranty depot shop to repair.

Your tv have problem with the Y buffer board. Normally Y buffer board is placed in the top or bottom of the sreen (Lower Y buffer or Higher Y buffer). The Y buffer board will look like in the picture. Also the video will help you to identify the y buffer board. You can get the part from any nearby samsung service center. You have to find out which one is faulty before replacing. Aslo cross check the part number on the board before purchase.

If you are talking about the Y upper and lower buffer boards you are looking at about $65.00 to $85.00. Google the part number and you will get several stores. I wouldn't buy from Ebay because usually they don't guarantee the parts. There are several stores on the net that have a return policy and their parts are guaranteed for 3 - 6 months. The upper board number P/N is BN96-02034A, the lower is BN96-02216A. I'm becoming an expert at this. I just changed out my upper and lower buffer boards and my Power Supply Board the picture looks beautiful for about 1hr. then the picture becomes pixelated I think I may have to change the fan because it's not working. Based on the symptoms: It is possible that the Y-buffers are faulty, which may require the replacement of the Y-sus board as well. You may want to get a local technician to diagnose the unit and provide a second opinion.

I googled the part numbers and ended up on a website that allowed me to purchase the buffer cards for around $120.00 each. The Y sustain card was purchased of of e-bay for $80.00 including shipping. I think that I got lucky with the Y sustain card.

It took a lot of searching to find the cards.

Each card had multiple part numbers on them.

LJ41-02759A = LJ92-01200A = Y Sustain
LJ41-02760A = LJ92-01202A = Y Buffer Upper
LJ41-02761A = LJ92-01203A = Y Buffer Lower

I searched today for the same part numbers and they were priced much higher.

The site was a Vance Baldwin parts store which is where philips must be distributing their replacement parts.

I partly agree with imaliszewski the problem is Y buffers (upper & lower). There is 3 parts to the Y board (Y-main, Y-upper, and Y-lower). There was an issue with defective Y-buffers in a memo sent out by the Plasma manufacture. The problem could be that you just got a set of these defective buffers in your panel. Or as Imaliszewski stated a current problem. but if you replace the Y-buffers repace them as a set. If your TV goes out again after changing the buffers. The panel is causing the problem by drawing too much current. That was a Defect I found out why working in a Philips/Magnavox warranty repair facility.

I just had my HP-R4252 repaired on 12.05.09 with a similar problem. The picture is covered in horizonal, broken lines and the color is predominately red. They lines are grouped together in large bands across the screen.

The tech replaced the Y-Buffer boards (Up) and (Low) in about 20 minutes.

I have a Phillips 50 inch Plasma. About two months out of warranty the top half of the screen would go black. Sometimes when we tapped on the back behind the upper right hand corner the picture would return. I did some research online and found that there is a Main Y sustain board (much like a mother board in a computer) and connected to that board is a upper Y Buffer board and a Lower Y buffer board. According to my research these boards seem to be the source of the problem. I am assuming that the upper buffer controls the top half of my screen and the lower controls the bottom. I removed the back of my TV (about 50 small screws) and searched for these parts by part number. Surprisingly all of the parts in my Phillips are made by Samsung. I found the parts on ebay at shopjimmy.com. I decided to try replacing the upper Y buffer first. I ordered it from shopjimmy for about 100.00. When I received the part I started to remove my upper Y buffer and realized that the new part was slightly different. The part number was the same but the REV. number was slightly different. The new part was missing a small white connector that connects the upper buffer to the lower buffer. I sent it back for an exchange for the right part with no problem. Ok so here is the interesting piece of this little adventure. When I started to remove my upper Y buffer I removed the screws and started to pull on it to loosen it. When I noticed that I had the wrong part I pushed it back into place and put the screws back . My TV has worked perfectly since I did that, with my original part. It has only been about two months, but if you are in the same situation it might be worth a try.

Ok Fellas I found the Problem!
The Problem is the V4 Y-Main Board. This board is located on the left side of the case looking upright from the back. I spoke with may suppliers, and Sanyo all confirming this. Apparently it has been an issue for some time. Sanyo has replaced the V4 Y Main board with a W1 Y main board in newer models. The W1 Board is NOT compatible for us tho. Just to be sure... If your T.V is taken apart (like mine) Disconnect the peripheral cable from the V4 Y Main, and turn on the set. I bet it will power up with audio and channel function just NO picture. When you plug the board back in... POOF set shuts down. Replacement boards are VERY hard to come by. So Happy Hunting!
