Im trying to take pictures without the memory card since it says optional however its not working what steps should I take?

Stop trying to do that and get a memory card. Writing to the internal memory is a frustrating experience. It's very small and only allows a few picture before it fills up. Once it's full, you can't use a regular memory card without going through a few steps.

I just puchases the a 300 it says optional for the memory card however I'm unable to take photos without the memory card what should i do?

Take it back to the store and get another camera but not this one - it has many hardware issues from the time it was released for sale. Read the comments: http://www.amazon.com/Polaroid-A300-3-2MP-Digital-Camera/dp/B000FW2I5S

My Polaroid a300 Digital Camera says to make sure you format the SD card in the camera before you use it in a computer. I see absolutely no option on this camera that will enable me to format the card. Am...

I'm sure you aren't missing something. Have you tried to take a picture and connect your camera to your PC ? if your PC don't have any problem to read and copy the picture, I think you can just ignore the notification.
But if you got any problem, like your PC can't read your data in your camera memory, than this formatting would be necessary. Not via camera of course, but via PC. If you can connect your camera to your PC and the memory card read as removable disc, then you can format it from Windows Explorer. But if you can't, take off the memory card and format it via car reader. And I suggest you to format before you take any pictures because formatting process will erase all of your data inside the memory card.

Hope this help and be kind to rate please.

When I turn the camera on it says insert card. Do I have to have a memory card? It states in the guide that it is optional.

Yes, it's an option that is not included with the camera, so you need to buy one. I suggest a 4GB card for you.

I purchashed a polaroid 300 digital camera. it says insert memory card. why do i need a memory card to take pictures. i called polaroid and was told, in order for the camera to function it was necessary

The memory card is similar to film for the camera. It's where your pictures will be stored. You can remove it from the camera and take it to your local store to print out your photos. One important thing to remember when purchasing one for your camera is that you'll need to purchase one that is capable of holding only 2GB or less. DO NOT purchase 4GB or higher as it will not work for your particular model camera. Fortunately 2GB cards are relatively inexpensive these days. Here's some examples from Amazon. And if you want to download your photos to your computer, please see this article.

4 GB memory card = 6 pictures

See the camera specifications, whether it supports memory cards above 2gb, if it supports it must have the "sdhc logo", most of the old camera's dos'nt have support for memory cards of capacity 4gb and above.

You need to erase the internal memory. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions. Then, insert the card and do the format thing again. This will erase the card so download any pics from it you want to save using a card reader if necessary.
