Take the batteries out. check for anything in the compartment, put them back in checking that they are the correct way round and fully inserted always spring end first then the little positive button last.
Push them carefully fully home and the door should shut.
Patience usually worked in the end.
Why my camara reads card
Take a look at the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.
If that doesn't work, try another card.

The problem is you are using a SDHC SD card (>2gb). They are not compatible with the a550. You need a 2gb or smaller standard SD card for it to recognise in the camera. Th epictures will then save onto it no problem.

Make sure you are saving your pictures to the card, not the internal memory Next, make sure you have alarge enough card to hold a good amount of pictures. Next, set your picture size to something lower. Pictures can take as much as 6MB eack or as little as 1/4 MB each.
