You need to go into the audio settings via
Admin Settings
Audio Settings
and make sure Enable Polycom Microphone is checked off.
Reboot and see if your microphone is recognized.
Go to Control Panel to "Sound and Audio Devices" Select the Audio tab, select the device you want. Sometimes, you have to go as far as going to the Device manager (right click My Computer/Properties/device Manager) and select the microphone under the Multimedia options and disable it. This should disable the ON BOARD microphone built in. Then you can plug yours in the MIC jack.
Have you checked if the option for the Microphone is selected? Go to the Sound settings and then click Option/s. Make sure Microphone or Mic is selected.
If the internal microphone is still "on", then it could be picking up internal sounds resonating within the computer when the fan kicks on, hard drive clicks and clunks, ect.
See if you can disable the internal microphone in the system settings.
