Hello
The power supply board to your tV is faulty. The sound you heard is due to a bursted capcitor. If you are aware in electronics and efficent in servicing LCD TVs, open your tV and locate the switching power regulator section. Look for any bulged or bursted capacitors in it. If is there, replace it with same capacity and size. Its capacity will be mared on it body intself in MFDs units. I hereby attaches a picture [not the power board of your TV; but to know you what a bulged capcitor will look like.

heard a pop and tv - gopakumarg43_78.jpg Look at the red arrow marked capacitors. They are all damaged [bulged] ones. You can see a good one at the top right of the baord. The only repair work that can be done with power supply of LCD TVs are, replaceing these types of capacitors if any. If you cannot see any of them like this in your TVs power supply [the picture of Sharp LC series LCD TVs power supply is attached below]; the pop sound you heard is from the switching transformer. It is very difficult to replace them and very rare to get from open electronic spare part market. if this is the case, you have to replace the power board as card basis, and it is good too; rather than making "surgery" to it.

This is the power board to your TV. As you can see, it will be very difficult to replace any component to it, and you must have a good concept of desoldering and soldering and equipments ot do the work. After replacing the power supply some adjustments to it should be done to accept the new power board to main system board. In rare cases, the main system board will accept the replaced power board. If so you are lucky. If you haven't enough knoledge in this matter, get it repaired by any well experienced service techinician or by the authorised service center for Sharp at your town

While watching tv we heard a pop and the receiver stopped working. Power button does nothing. We've opened it up but can't see anything that looks burnt or fried...

It could be a relay that burnt out, they usually dont show any signs of damage, or the motherboard could be fried too with no signs of damage eather! Hope this helps!

Hitachi clu-4591av stopped working - popping sound

The power supply regulator section should be troubleshooted. The "Pop" sound you heard might be of a bursted electrolytic capacitor in the AC mains rectifier section inside the TV. All the related commponets, rectifier diodes, protection zener diodes etc:- should be checked before switch ON the TV further.

In my 42" HDTV Plasama TV I heard a loud pop.

You will find that the power supply has failed and is no longer supplying the VS voltage that the screen requires to produce a picture.
Call a specialised engineer that is authorised to work on your make ot TV.

HEARD LOUD POP NOISE DLP TV DOES NOT WORK

Following up on my Feb 7 post. My new lamp arrived, and I replaced it and it works great. The old lamp had many shards of glass come out of it. It was tore up. I saved some money buy purchasing just the lamp and not the cartridge. It's a little bit more work to take apart, but saves money. Mitsubishi wanted $289 for the lamp replacement kit. I got a lamp for $114. TV is working just fine now!

Sony Bravia XBR-2 32-inch LCD with popping noise problem

Has anyone heard of something like this where the cable box/service is causing popping sounds? yes & it is common problem. And is this something I should be concerned about causing damage to the TV's speakers? not at all. The Sony tech-support representative (over the phone) diagnosed it further to a problem not with the TV but with the cable box/service because there were no popping sounds when I played a DVD on my Playstation 2 that is attached to the TV. they are right that your problem is not due to tv. it is due to cable box/service? yes but not defective it reqires to change the way you have connected tv to cable.please call tech to get it connected in such a way so that you do not get popping sound when you you put off cable box.
