I have a 1/10 exceed sunfire brush motor. I've been using it for a couple of weeks on rough terrain, driving it fast. Over the past few days it has slowed down considerably, and now only goes about 5mph. Do you think I could have burned out the motor? any other ideas? solutions? After going slow, it will click a little, then the motor won't work, only the steering works. If I turn it off/on, the beeps are weak-sounding until about the 3rd time of power-cycling. Yes, the batteries are always fully-charged, 7.2V nimh. It's a 540 brush motor, ESC SP 03018. Thanks for your help.

Think more than likely you have burnt out the speed controller as this is the first to go before the motor

SOURCE: exceed rc - magnet was smoking

The smoke came from 1) you fried the Electronic Speed Control (ESC) unit 2) wires have shorted together, got hot, and burned together. You need to check the ESC and wires. Go to a radio control forum and ask. All the best Jeff - admin at rcgearing.com

You might check the pulleys that the serpentine belt runs on. Make sure all are free wheeling and not loose or rough or make noise. You would need to remove the belt to check them.

sounds like possible lifter ticking due to lack of service. offer to pay for an oil change and drive the car for a couple of days to see if ticking noise quietens down. if it doesn't you may be looking at replacing the lifters.
