Check out the company who made the computer to see if they still have recovery disc for it. If not go on ebay and buy an operating system that you think it will run ok. Put it into the computer and it will come to the place where you deal with the hard drive. Delete the partitions then choose the space left apply format and complete the install. Afterwards you may have to use a wireless USB device to go online and download the drivers from the computer companies site. Also you can download Advanced system care 8 and use their free driver booster to add drivers. Be sure to add a good virus protection to help keep you safe. Run all the windows updates until you are completely exhausted and feed up with it but finish them because they help protect your system.:)

What is the computer model? NOT the operating system, but the numbers on the back of the computer itself. Inspiron, Dimension, Optiplex, etc. and model #

SOURCE: i need the produce key for it reinstallation cd

You can not get CD key, serial #., crack and code in fixya under the circumstances with the law of piracy. Go to microsoft center and buy a genuine copy of software you need. Only the manufacturer can give a licensed key of their products.

Usually you can call Dell or HP or whomever sold you the computer and request replacements. These are usually free or available for a small fee.

There are two solutions to your problem. First reinstall the operating system thus wiping out the previous user accounts and thus the administrator password.

If you would like there is a way to break the administrator's password. You need to crack your administrator password hashes.

On my desk top computer that I bought at yard sale I don't know the administrator password. It has Windows XP professional.

Unless the previous owner had a particular security issue and changed it, the default password is the same. i.e. Administrator or Admin. Try these without the capitals if they don't work. Failing that, there are numerous XP password resetters that you can download. These are usually an ISO file which you burn to a CD. You then boot from this cd which usually runs a Linux based shell that will interrogate the password list. They will allow you to zero or clear all passwords on the system. The other alternative is easy if you have the XP install disk. Just reinstall the whole thing. Just a point though. Does a prompt come up as soon as you start the system probably in a blue box? If so this is a bios prompt and requires a different approach.

If the administrator password you are telling about is for windows, then you just have to reformat the hard disk and install the operating system you want.

Bought this C510 at a yard sale. No user or admin password available. Windows xp comes up but wants me to login as user, tried administrator and its password protected as well. System will not let me...

You can use external CD drive to reinstall windows, or use Superutilities CD to change the passwords. Also you can take the HDD out and attach it to a desktop PC to ghost an image on it.
You can too replace the internal CD drive with a working one.

I bought this computer at a garage sale and it is set up to log on by pressing ctl, alt, delet but I don't have the password is there any way around this

Try this:At startup, before you get the Windows splash screen, hit the F8 key to see if you can start in safe mode. If you can, the password for administrator may not have been set, in which case you can log on without entering one.Otherwise, you'll have to do a reinstall of Windows or, when starting the reinstall, when the computer says it's loading drivers, etc, you can press CTRL F10 and that should get you to the screen where you can see the passwords. Windows xp will not load

When it asks for administrator password, and you didn't have one set, just push enter and you'll be able to continue.

If you don't need any information from the computer, use a program to writes zeros to the drive and then you'll be able to install windows. HDD manufacturers provide a program to zero the drive

Unlock HP Laptop

It depends on the login type.
Most company laptop are connected to the company's network and the user login is into their network. If it is only a Windows user login then this can be reset with a password recovery program, its not available to the average user.

The best bet is to reinstall Windows, this will wipe clean the hard disk and give you a laptop with a fresh clean Windows XP installation which will give you less problems.
You can do it yourself, if not get a computer savy friend to help you.

No administrator password

you might want to ask the person who sold it to you for the password. Or you could make a clean install of windows.
