I bought a used Canon Canoscan FS4000US. The only drivers available online seem to be out of the USA. Only a US version will work. Help!

    Hi when I click on the link for the canon website it directs me to the product I own. However when I click on drivers and software it does not provide any options. If I try it from a mac it gives me the options. Will this work with a recent mac? How about windows vista 64 bit?
    I appreciate any help you can offer.

    I added a comment but it didn't post I guess. I tried the link. It did not give me an option to view available downloads. I use windows Vista 64 Bit. I tried it with a mac and it did give me options. Options I already tried with the mac and it didn't work. So I am trying to get it to work with windows.
    So basically I would like it to work with either the Windows Vista 64 or Mac OS X 10.6.8
    I appreciate any help you can offer.

    After you click on drivers and software please select the operating system of your computer. If your using a 10.x version of mac please select mac os x. then click on the drivers to expland the list so that you will be able to see the download link. By the way it will only works on Mac Os 10.3. If you need vista select Windows Vista then click on drivers. Thanks

    Unfortunately for windows vista 64bit it won't work as well because the device and the driver is only for 32bit computer and canon did not update the driver of the device. For your mac os x 10.6.8 it won't work because it was meant for 10.3. Thanks

    Canon did not update the driver of the device because of one reason. Marketing strategy that they want consumer to buy a compatible product that will work with the latest operating system. Thanks

Hi I bought a Canon Canoscan FS4000US used online. No driver came with product. Canon website does not offer any downloads when viewing canon website with WIndows Vista 64 Bit. It does show available...
When I go to the Canon site, I get prompted to select my OS: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_fs4000us#DriversAndSoftware . On other parts of the Canon support site, I need to click on a Change OS link to get that dropdown menu or swap to the Select OS in that dropdown menu and then refresh the page. Then I can select a new OS. (Note the site uses Javascripts that do not seem compatible with all browsers. I found it worked with Firefox 6.0.2 . The exact location is hidden until you agree to the Canon Terms of Use.)

However, this driver, fs4000usvst103ben.exe, is listed as a Vista 32-bit driver released in 2007. Since the 64-bit Windows requires signed drivers, Canon doesn't make 64-bit drivers for their older scanners. (This scanner was released with compatibility with Win98.) Thus you will probably get an error message about the unsigned driver when you try to install it.

If the driver refuses to install, you may be able to run the driver installer by using the compatibility mode. Download the file and save it to your hard drive. Right click on the exe file and choose Properties. In the Compatibility Tab, select Run this Program in the Compatibility Mode and choose XP. Click Apply and then OK. Right click again on the exe and choose Run as Administrator.

Not sure on Canon but I feel your pain... I have a Kodak ESP 9 that used to work on my PC when I had 32 Bit version of Windows 7 but when I switched to 64 Bit it wouldnt anymore because Kodak hasnt made a driver for it for 64 Bit yet so I have to use another computer to print from. Check with the Canon Website and if you cant find a driver then you may want to call them and see if they have one in the works.

Probably a dead pixel in the sensor. You can request a repair quote from caono online.

CanoScan Vs. Windows Vista
Tom, your solution is incorrect. I have just got my Canoscan working fine with Vista, simply using Canon's official XP drivers and unpacking them in XP compatibility mode. Is working fine with just a bit of experimentation. (You need the Canon toolbox software too, all of which is available from canon.com)
