They're ALL Down when you get the timer.. It would be helpful for them to state that in the instruction. Instead they tell you to push the pins down to set. Bur they're already all down!
I think all pins are in the up position from the factory. It looks like you push the attached pins down (or into the body of the timer) for the duration that you want your light to stay on. Then leave the pins up (or away from the body) for the duration that you want your light to stay off. If the pins won't go in (or down), rotate the dial, it is possible that the pins are hitting the switch inside.
Try that & write back.

Gary, you are my hero.. lol. I have been trying to push these buttons down for the last 72 hours. Ha ha. I am a blonde so it didn’t look good at all.. too embarrassed to ask anyone, i turned to google Thank the Lord for google. It’s like that friend that takes all of our embarrassing questions and sheds light .. at any rate, thank you .. saved the day.. and the blonde. ????
Hi! I've had the same exact problem, and of course when I called the help hotline I said and they figured it out myself. The pens are considered down when they are level with the nightlight and face plate. So you have to pull them up in order to get them to work. It was easier for me to get the pins up on the bottom edge, or the flat part, so I would rotate the dial and pull the pins up as I rotated . Just be careful, I accidentally took off the entire face plate but plugged it back in. My advice would be to press down you're with your thumb on the nightlight section as you pull the pins up
I have three of these types of timers and cannot get the pins t moe up or down. I have rotated the time dial and they still don't work. It sems unlikely that all three of them are defective. Any thoughts?
