Canon PG-30 (black) and Canon CL-31 (color) are the ink cartridges that come included with the Canon ip1800 originally - these ink cartridges will provide the best compatibility.

SOURCE: I need a tool to reset my canon pixma iP4600 ink cartridges

I found the only tool I have seen at this url. http://www.patronenhandel.de/shop/index.php/cat/c13943_Canon-Chipresetter.html It is a German company, but I was able to order the resetter from them with no problems. It has worked very well, but was a little expensive. part of the problem was that the US dollar and Euro were not at a favorable exchange rate when I ordered. I didn't get any answers to my emails to them, but when I used there site to order, it took about a week to get the device. It is very simple to use.

My printer keeps telling me that the an ink cartridge is not installed properly. Do I have to buy a new ink cartridge?

Take the cartridge out and try to re-install it, when in position push down until you feel it slot in "like plugging it in a receptical" the cartridge should work when you close the lid. Unless there is a defect you don't need to buy other.

Ink

Better not to refill. Better buy a new original Canon cartridge. The reason being that some of the newer printers have sensors which can detect refilled cartridges and will cause more problems later.

Cannon IP1800 Ink Refill

need to know how to refill the cartridges. I don't see a place to refill them. It is cheaper for me to buy a brand new printer than it is to buy the new cartridges when the ink runs out. Thats crazy.
