hi, try to dial 112 or any emergency number in your country ..if you HEAR nothing it is software problem ,but if you HEAR something it is either LCD (glass display in your screen ) or FLEX cable (it is the component that makes your phone display functioning..you can do it by yourself if you have a tools called T5 that you will used to dismantle your phone ...buy an LCD that compatible to your phone and also flex cable...here is the guide to dismantle your phone...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPCDM0tvMRM

My sony erricson k850i started giving problems a while back. during use the screen would go black but it didnt stop the general use of the phone, I could still sms or phone a number even though I couldnt see anything on the screen. Then my phone went of and never came back on again. I tried software upgrade, I did the whole remove battery and mem card thing I charged it over night etc, there is no responce from the phone at all exept for a red light that comes on deep inside the phone when charger is connected, only visible in the dark pls help
It looks like that the display (LCD Data) Strip had gone Faulty. Try switching the mobile for several times to ON/OFF after removing the battery. If the problem still persists it either shows bad software or Hardware (Strip Damage) problem. The solution to the scenario you quoted is more biased towards a hardware problem i.e Strip replacement.
