What causes a Syncmaster 2253LW monitor to start ok and immediately fade.

The monitor may be failing. Here's some tricks I would try... 1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor. 2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor. 3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on. 4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works). 5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord. 6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced. 7. Also, you could try your monitor on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers. Good luck.

How do you disassemble a syncmaster 2253LW monitor?

Most of these have clips and little screws. Use athe smallest screwdriver you can find slip between the seams and easy pry it just enough to see in to find the other clips slowly work your way around it. Till it pops off.

VGA Will not connect

Have you checked if the SyncMaster is compatible with a Mac? I do not use Macs, so I do not know. In the old times you had to buy everything Apple. You could try looking for an adapter to convert VGA or Digital to Mac Video.

You need WINDOWS 7 driver which SAMSUNG does not have:
http://www.samsung.com/my/consumer/pc-peripherals-printer/monitor/lcd-monitor/LS22AQVJFV/XME/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support

Right now the operating system does not know what monitor is being attaching to the PC.
Please verify that the driver for the SAMSUNG you have is for Windows 7. In the hardware propertie, you shuld be able to see 2253 in the list if the correct driver is installed.

That is one of the reson I do not use Windows 7 on my monitor testing PC setup.

It shows "check signal cable",

Hi, Hopefully you are seeing this error on the screen of your monitor. If that is the case,
do the following steps.
1 Shut down the computer. To do this, without looking at the monitor, hold the on/off button to your computer in for about 5 seconds. The computer should then shut down.
2 Shut off the monitor.
3 Unplug the video signal cable, the thick one that goes between between the computer and the monitor and then re-insert it observing not to bend any pins. There are two end screws that you will have to be loosened, although they may have not been tightened in the first place. When you reinsert the cable, hand tighten those screws.
4 If there is a similar connector on the back of the monitor, repeat step # 3.
5 Make sure that the signal cable is firmly attached to both the computer and the monitor. 5 Turn on the computer and see if it has solved the problem.
If it does not, examine the cable for signs of damage along it's length.
If it is damaged, replace it. you should be able to get a cable for stores like Best Buy, or possible from a friends old stack of cables.
Hope this helps,
Mark

The format of the image is wrongly set on the monitor - it should be set on 1680 x 1050 in Windows.
To make sure all is set correctly in the monitor itself, go in the MENU and find the RESET option - select it and the tv will return to factory adjustments. To select it use the arrow keys and the enter/SOURCE button from the case.

Computer monitor text overlaps/overwrites and can't be read

This is caused by a bad rendering in the browser, usually because the internet link is iffy and the missing data isn't reloaded. This site especially is very buggy, especially in Firefox. Try using another browser. I use Opera and it works practically everywhere and in all conditions.

My screen has horizontal lines apprearing in gray

Yes
1. this may be a internal loose ribbon cable or the VGA cable it self.
In any case you will have to have it looked at.
2. Check the pins on the connector end of the monitor. make sure none are bent or broken or loose.
Make sure the cable is secured to the video card.
4. Make sure you have the video card settings to the proper resolution. They could have changed.
If the monitor is 3 yrs old or more and it may need driver updates. check the manufacturers site to see. Via model number.

How do I make the page to cover the whole screen?

Cut a larger sheet of paper. Just kidding!
What 'page'. Do you mean Windows desktop? Or an application within Windows?
If the desktop is not filling the screen, the monitor should have an 'auto' setting within its menus.
My Samsung monitor (different model) has both a menu button and an auto button.
If you are referring to an application window (you can see some of the desktop around the outside of your application, just maximise your application.
