Hello Heather
Good to see you again.
Also check the small strainers on the water connectors. They can block up with limescale and debris. While the connectors are off, turn on the water into a bucket or a sink. You should have a VERY powerful jet of water. Anything that will reduce flow will lengthen the fill time and therefore to total wash time due to fill and rinses. When it pumps out, also check you have good flow in the drain hose and items can jam in the ridges and catch lint enough to block them almost completely.
One clever thing to do is whilst the water inlet connectors are off, unlock the drain hose, unhook the part that makes the hook, put the round connector in the hose and wrap a tea towel around it. Get someone to turn the water on full bore whilst you are gripping the two hoses together. Run it for a full minute. Water will be flushed into the machine through the pump in reverse. Put everything back and run a rinse and spin with nothing in it, look at all the black lint that is pumped out! I did that once at work and found an apple stalk that had lodged across the ridges of the drain hose which had 90% blocked the pipe.
..
If your inlet valve itself is stripped then you have to replace the valve. The plastic thread is part of the inlet valve. If its only the screen in your inlet valve you can remove the screen and replace it. However if you crossthread anything plastic it HAS to be replaced.
If you give me your model number of the washer usually the wpl 4318046 can be used as an inlet valve which is a cheaper alternative than your local parts distributor would tell you. GE parts on avg are 30% more expensive than anything else. On ANY ge appliance there is usually a way around there replacements with some minor altercations. I wish this site had a way you could contact me directly. I just joined so am not an expert yet but ive done my time in the field. If i could give you any expert advise its DONT BUY GE, OR LG.
Question edited for clarity 'MAKE model (WHAT IT IS)'.
You posted to Televisions, moved to GE Washing Machine.
It may be the lid lock, test it with your digital multimeter. Look for loose or damaged connections.

Just remove the drain hose from the drain upstand pipe and lower it to the floor. It will empty the pump or water.You can also drop a pint of car anti freeze into the machine just to be sure if you wish.
I understand your frustration. It sounds like your GE washing machine is having some problems. Resetting the washer may help to fix the issue. Here are the steps on how to reset a GE washing machine WPDH8900J1WW:
1. Unplug the washer from the power outlet.
2. Wait for 2 minutes.
3. Plug the washer back in.
4. Turn on the washer.
5. Select a cycle and press the start button.
If the washer still does not work, you can try resetting the drum motor. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Unplug the washer from the power outlet.
2. Wait for 1 minute.
3. Plug the washer back in.
4. Open and close the lid of the washer 6 times within 12 seconds.
5. Close the lid and press the start button.
If the washer still does not work after resetting the drum motor, you may need to contact a qualified appliance repair technician.
Here are some other things you can try before resetting the washer:
* Make sure that the washer is properly leveled.
* Check the water supply hoses for leaks.
* Clean the lint trap.
* Check the detergent dispenser for clogs.
I hope this helps!

OL = Overloaded.
Is the Washer overloaded? If OL (overloaded) appears in display, the load too large. If an overload is detected, the washer will drain any water and detergent in the washer. Remove several items and add HE detergent.Feb 24, 2020
A top-load washer tub is usually supported by four suspension rods. If one of the suspension rods becomes dislodged or breaks, the control board may stop the spin cycle several times to try to balance the clothes. Suspension rods will often come in a set of four and it is recommended to replace all four of the rods at the same time to reduce uneven wear.
Greetings,
If the mechanism of the button pushing in automatically is what allows the wash cycle to stop, then you can apply some oil to the area of the button that touches the rest of the washer. Friction could be stopping the normal mechanism which would be one cause of the continuous, spin cycle issue that you're experiencing.
Thank you.
