Dell PowerEdge 2950 (becwfk1_6) Server - Page 2 Questions & Answers
My dvd rom will not
If you have a spare USB flash drive lying around, you could try using
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ with the ISO image. Then, hit F11 while the 2950 is booting and you should be able to select the flash drive.
If that doesn't work, see if you can find updated firmware for your DVD-ROM on
http://support.dell.com or if it's an aftermarket install go to the OEM's support site.
Failing that, maybe try different media. If you're burning to a CD-R, try a different brand (and avoid CD-RW discs.) If you're using a DVD-R, try a DVD+R.
Good luck!
How to use the smart start cd to install dell
Smart Start is an HP utility. Dell has a similar one called Systems Build and Update Utility (SBUU) or Systems Management Tools and Documentation (SMTD - much larger download and includes SBUU).
You should use the DVD version if possible, and if you are installing 2003, it should have SP2. If it doesn't, then you can use nLiteOS.com to integrate the Service Pack into your installation media.

When you are booting the system are you pressing F12 to get to the boot menu or are you trying to boot from the ROM via the BIOS settings.
Also what disk are you trying to boot from.

If the server is not posting then most likely you are having a hardware problem. If you let me know the light that you see and where they are I can tell you what is wrong.

Giving and indicates blue light? what it means
radical93
Is the light solid or is blinking. If the light is the system status light by the network jacks, then solid blue system light is turned on no errors in the BMC. If the indicator is blinking blue this mean the system is turned on and is in system ID state.
Let me know know if you have any more questions

Turn off machine un plug all power cables.
To access the jumpers, remove the cooling shroud by lifting the release latch and sliding the shroud towards the front of the system
Lift up the memory module airflow shroud for easy access to the jumpers
This will rest the password and then you will be able to rest the server.
Hope this help you.
I have a raid 1 drive with on bad physical drive,
with the CDs that came with the computer. There should be a disk manager (openManage I thinkits called). Load that software up and there will be a kind of event viewer which will tell you of any errors in the computer - your raid configuration will be one of these errors.
If you view the error it will tell you which drive and allow you to rebuild it too

Hello,
Could you be a bit more specific about what you would like to do? What are you trying to accomplish?
Thanks

Windows - Delayed Write Failed
This points out to a problem with one of your hard drives. Run CHKDSK on all drives you have, & if any problems are detected on any drive, run CHKDSK /F on that drive.
Problem in reboot the server in domain
This sounds like a common DNS issue. You need to make sure that this server has a local DNS server like 192.168.1.1 and not an external one like 4.2.2.2.
Your server is trying to find the domain controller and with the external DNS it cannot. This is why when you remove the cable it loads correctly. it assumes that it is disconnected from the local network and it continues without the domain controller. otherwise it waits for the external dns to time out.
