Denon AVR-788 Questions & Answers
Subwoofer
I'm not familiar with your unit. However, this is normal, since the "sub" is encoded separately in movies. I have a separate sub for my front speakers. Or if you know what you're doing you can redirect the front signal to your sub by using a switcher when you're listening to cds, then switch back to surround when watching movies. But again, you have to be experienced in the principle of A/V configuration.
No picture through my reciever now
Not much information given, but if the picture was working before then you need to find what is different. If the source is still good, then look at changing or re-seating cables, especially HDMI if you are using that. If the signal path inside the receiver has failed you could perform a factory reset to defaults (see manual or Denon site) If that does not work then try a different video input/output. Finally, I assume you have checked your monitor.

How do I set my receiver to read TV/CBL Dolby
The Dolby digital signal is outputted only through the Optical or Coaxial socket of the CBL box. you will have to get an optic fiber or coaxial cable depending which cable box you have and connect it to the digital input of the Denon receiver. The Denon's digital input are already assigned at the back. Eg: Optic input might be labeled CD so if you are connecting the CBL box to the optic input remember to select CD on the Denon to hear the cable sound, same goes with the coaxial input.

try to open the cover and inspect the mainboard a possible loose board occurs during movement and transport.use a soldering iron to resolder the pcboard specially the power supply section...this job is not for everybody but if you have the proper tools and a bacground in repair you may try but I would suggest to bring it a service center or ask the help of a skilled personnel in actual repair.
here's the tools you need
1.digital tester
2.soldering iron
3.soldering lead 5 meters
4.disoldering pump
5.screw driver philip
6 long nose plier.
be very careful be sure to unplug the unit before proceeding..good luck!
Denon avr 788 power switches
Could be a short on one or more of the speaker outputs. Try disconnecting all speakers and turning the unit on. If that works without a power-down then you have a short in one of the speaker connections. Re-connect them one at a time to detarmine which one it is, and then you should be able to correct the problem.
If that is not the cause then you have an internal problem with the avr which would be difficult to diagnose here.
