Please try to put in an ordinary audio CD track and see if this is detected. If yes the optical is working, if not there is no laser scanning and the possibility of the head being faulty is high.
Now certain cleaner disks are not read and so will not be tracked. Hence the rejection but the best is for cleaning manually the laser head eye with a cotton bud very softly and without any pressing of the lens eye.
If there is still no result then watch the CD if it spins or tries to spin. If the head unit moves up or down to focus or in and out of the drive, if so the board seems to work correctly and the possibility of the optical head being the suspected fault is closer.
Finally try to see if the set records on a DVD with a given signal source. If not the fault is confirmed.
But if any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of the processor board

The laser head is faulty: the sensor in so longer detecting the return laser light because there's dirt and dust on it or the lens. Dismantle the unit and access the laser head - use a can of compressed air and blow away all the dust from between the lens and the sensor then wipe the lens with a q-tip. If after 2 or 3 cleanings the situation doesn't improve then the dust was baked on the plastic lens and cannot be removed: if you can't find a replacement laser head then the recorder is dead, get a new one.
LG RH387 stays on hello message
Hi All I have just had this problem. Note that the DVD reader/writer has packed up and the system will not boot any futher. Replace the DVD/reader/writer and your problem will be resolved
Once power is on hello is contineously scrolling
A couple of universal things you can try. Power unit off, unplug for 5 minutes, plug back in, power on.
Another thing to try is same as above, but when powering unit on, also press the stop button at same time.
That has worked for me in the past. Hope this helps.
My LG DVD HDD Recorder
Hi, well really at 2 months old, and faulted, you are allowed to return it under Warranty, to the seller and ask for a replacement, even repair is NOT an option you must be given a new usable unit. This unit would fall into the category of being un fit for use, and not of merchantable quality. simple as that, you have a right to expect a device like this to last longer than 2 months!
Even if you contacted LG head office, I am sure they would provide a remedy.
I have seen this type of problem many times before, and usually it is the main processor board, or power supply, or both.
To get the disk out, get a paper clip and straighten then locate the small hole in the front of the DVD draw, now insert the wire into the slot, and press in, keep pressing in until you hear/feel a "Click" then keep pressing and the draw should pop open, you can now retrieve your disc.
My DVD recorder LG RH1858 isn't recording
Unfortunately, your recorder is picking up a signal in the broadcast that copy-protects the show. The recorder is programmed to forbid copying of protected material. Depending on the source of the copy-protection, you may be able to block out the copy protection signal with a hardware filter. One example of these would be the Sima CT-2 that is placed between the S-out of the receiver and the S-in of the recorder.
I hope this helps.

(One common sources with this issue: a DVR that passes on the copy protection to an attached DVD recorder. Particularly some of the new Satellite/Cable receivers with built-in DVRs. The non-DVR models of the products usually filter out the copy-protection.)

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. It seems that the lens is unable to read discs. To start with try running a lens cleaning disc, if that does not work then you have to open the unit and clean the lens with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol. If still the issue is not resolved then the lens should be replaced however, replacing a lens will cost you around $75 and a new one will cost you around $50. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.
Thanks

LG RH1757 (80 GB) DVD Recorder / HDD Recorder
Could be a timing issue with the tray mechanism - possible that somebody has given the tray "a shove" to make it close instead of using the open/close button and has put the timing out.or a worn tray loading belt
Failed power supply section, what is the problem?
it unfortunately could be literally one of 25 things, the Power Supply is a symptom of the actual CAUSE. You must get a service manual to perform the troubleshooting and fault isolation procedure, and even than it is still extremely hard to isolate, usually one just replaces the Mother Board, and or power supply. But it also may be the laser head, too.
Stop Substitles on a LG RHT497H 160G dvd recorder?
I have the LG DVD recorder DRT389H which has the same problem. You can't switch off the subtitles during timer recording from the Electronic Programme Guide. The only way I could stop this was to go to the main set-up menu then select the A icon. Select DTV Subtitle and choose a language that the TV programme isn't broadcast in. I chose Gaelic. The only disadvantage is that this stops any subtitles being recorded so you can't access them later.
RC389H not playing DVD bought
this is because you have the wrong "Region Code" set. To be able to use this you will have to be able to change this code. Please go to the website below to see all about doing this and if your player can be re-coded.

My LG RH265 keeps opening the tray. When I close
My RH265 has had this fault three times and on each occasion LG have replaced the 815V DVD Deck (Part No. EAZ34934813) - This fault seems to be common to all their recorders and in my view gives LG an otherwise undeserved very bad name for product reliability. I am very surprised that they do not appear to have solved the problem with a reliable component.
LG HDD DVD recorder RH7521W is not able to read
Mine had a similar problem. I assumed there might be some dust on the laser. I used an air compressor and pointed it at the DVD slot as it was opening and closing to blow some air around inside the unit (and hopefully dislodge any dust). It worked. The discs that would not play before did play after. I didn't have the air compressor nozzle too close to the opening as I didn't want to dislodge anything I wasn't supposed to. If it was dust on the laser, you might be able to clean it in other ways, such as removing the cover and using a cotton tip (take power off first!). That would have been my approach if I didn't have an air compressor.
My LG RH177 does not read and write DVD-R anymore.
Hi,
There are three things you can do that will eventually give you a working solution. Depending on the level of problem. Start with 1 progress to 3 until it works.
1. Use a cleaning disc. (one that use an alcohol based liquid)
2. If the cleaning disc does not solve it, you can use an ear bud, with some iso-propyl alcohol to clean the DVD lens on the drive directly. (you have to open the player and the drive)
3. The guaranteed working solution is to replace the DVD drive inside the player. This is quite a simple process, as most players use a standard IDE DVD-ROM or DVD writer.
You simply remove the face plate, (apply power to the drive, and press eject first) the tray will open. Unclip the tray face, and then with the tray open you can unclip the plastic face plate too.
Remove the old drive, and fit the new drive by reversing the removal procedure.
Once everything is assembled you should be able to watch DVD's again. If you can't find a cheap DVD drive locally, try ebay.
I have done this on over 50 players for my clients in the past. I use LG DVD roms and DVD writers for the DVD recorders, irrespective of brand.
Let me know how it goes.
Hi\r\nI have model RH177 and cannot record from
I think the laser that burns the discs has lost its intensity. As you may be aware a high intensity laser is used to burn the discs and any drop in intensity will prevent you from burning discs on it. You can try a lens cleaner with liquid as a bad or dirty lens can obstruct the laser. If its just a dirty lens it will be cleaned and you will be able to burn DVDs again. Otherwise I'm afraid you will have get the lens assembly repaired/replaced.
Sai.
