LaCie drive will not mount
Hi,
Does the LaCie drive stay plugged into the computer all the time? Have you ever disconnected it from the computer, unplugged its own power supply, or switched it off without first unmounting it from the desktop, and received a "The device you removed was not properly put away" error message? If so, did its failure to mount begin after that?
Have you tried connecting the drive directly to your computer, omitting the hub and leaving all other FW devices disconnected? If that doesn't cause the drive to mount, try another FW device on your Tibook's FW port to make sure the port isn't bad. Then try using a different FW cable with the LaCied rive, in case the cable is bad, and test the LaCie drive's cable with a different device. If the port and cable both work OK with other devices, boot to a Mac OS installer disc, connect the LaCie drive, and see whether it is recognized by Disk Utility, running from the startup CD or DVD. If it is, there's a software problem on your hard drive that is preventing detection of the drive. If your port and cable are proven good, but DU doesn't see the drive even when the Mac is booted to an OS installer disc, It would appear there's a hardware or very low-level software problem with the LaCie drive itself, and you should consult LaCie about it.
