Handycam submerge for 24 hours in water?was it
My advice is as follows:
Ii the handycam was submerged without the battery on it the electronics may still be fine. you need to take it to the repairman who will open up all the circuit boards and dry them.
If there was a tape i the camera , the tape is damaged and cannot be used again.
The camera mechanism may also be damaged by the water through corrosion , so its absolutely important that you take it to the repairmen for drying as soon as possible.
However if the handycam was submerged with the battery on, then the electronic circuit boards are most likely damaged.
in this case you may weigh the costs of having the circuit boards replaced against buying a new camcorder altogether.
JVC Everio GZ-MG130U no longer records and I can't
The hard disk has failed, the likelyhood ov recovering any data is minimal (similar to a PC when the hard drive fails) it tries to recover and sometimes it can and sometimes it can't. If that were posible it would have to go to a specialist and it would cost an extremely amount of $$$ to recover files. You always want to save to disk or back up files/recordings every so often just in case.

Whether auto or manual the focus is stuck
I have the same problem. Did you have any success with yours. I even took mine apart thinking I could realign some gears. The gears are in the lens module in the very center of the camera. It is not so easy to repair or access at first glance anyway.
How do I join all the various files I`ve taken

JVC camcorders are known for having safeguard problems.
mine was locked into safeguard the second time i tried to use it at 1 month old. i had it repaired and it came back eating the tapes. eating the tapes was blamed on old, or improper tapes. they were all brand new never used JVC tapes.
it came back from service locked in safeguard mode.
i got it back the fourth time and it worked for a few days, then went back into safeguard mode.
the shop had it more than i did during the first year.
when it locked the next time after the warranty was out, i was told the estimate for repairs was $300.00.
unless you want to try to risk taking it apart, the only 2 options you have is to send it in for repairs which is not cheap, or throw it away and never buy anything from JVC again.
i chose option 2.
