it that was the case, no.......what you can try to do, to be sure, try putting another sim card in the phone.....if that doesnt work, you will have to do a wipe of the handheld....it could have gotten a virus. in order to do that, go to options, security options, general settings, press the menu button and select wipe handheld
HOW TO FIX ERROR 513 ON BLACKBERRY CURVE
Unfortunately to fix the 513 error you will need to either restore a full backup via desktop manager, or download and reinstall the Blackberry handheld OS from your carrier.
Sim card not warking
Have you rung your service provider and activated your sim card? It is important to have the phone turned off while doing this. If you haven't changed your number, turn the old phone off too (just in case), and ring them to activate your new sim. You have not posted whether you are using your old or new sim, but judging by the other people with the same problem, this sounds like the case. They will want the serial number off the back of the sim card to do this.
My blackberry wont turn on
try a new battery? maybe your battery is dead maybe the phone wont charge your old battery do some elimination to figure out the problem
I have BlackBery 8800
If your phone is a GSM phone meaning the phone has a SIM card usually T-mobile or At&t, tell your son to call customer service and tell them that he needs the unlock code for his phone, if he has been with the company for more than 90 days they will give it to you with out any hassle, they might ask why you need it, tell them he is traveling over seas, they will email you the unlock code wihin 48 hours, free of charge, when you get your new service provider they will issue you a new SIM card which you will put in the phone once it powers up it will ask you for the unlock code.
