my over the range panasonic microwave turns off after 5 seconds????

Hi,# 1 Unplug the microwave from its electrical outlet. Never service an electrical appliance while it's plugged in.# 2 Remove the screws that hold the outer shell onto the microwave chassis. Often the screws are on the bottom or back of the microwave. Use a Phillips screwdriver or Torx driver to remove the screws.# 3 Lift the outer shell off the microwave chassis and locate the box that houses the halogen lightbulb. In most cases, the box is metal. It may or may not have a lid on it. If it has a lid, loosen the tabs and pull off the lid.# 4 Unscrew the halogen bulb and replace it with a bulb rated at the exact same wattage.# 5 Place the cover back onto the box if necessary and place the shell over the microwave chassis.# 6 Secure the shell to the chassis with the original screws and the screwdriver or torx driver.Regards.

The first most posible cause is the fuse inside is blown if the power supply is ok. You can remove the cover of the oven, and look inside at fuse. You can test power supply / inverter with a voltmeter to see if there is power to the main circuit board. Take care not touching the capacitor since is full of deadly high voltage

May I get the make and model # to help you more

You probably have a bad door switch or door switch mount.

H97, mean that there's a problem with your inverter, magnetron, or digital programming circuit.

You didn't mention your brand or model number, but I'll assume it's a Panasonic since you posted this under a Panasonic category.

See if this describes what's happening:

Otherwise, if the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will stop the cook cycle.

If it stops after 7 seconds, it has a problem with the inverter.

If it stops at 16 seconds and is a sensor model, it probably has a defective humidity sensor.

If it stops after 22 seconds, that means the controller has detected a problem, usually a problem with the inverter, controller, magnetron, or a bad connection from one or the other.

Display codes H95, H97, H98 or H99 mean that there's a problem with your inverter, magnetron, or digital programming circuit.

That may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Either the fuse inside is blown, or the power supply is shot. You can remove the cover of the oven, and look inside at fuse. You can test power supply / inverter with a voltmeter to see if there is power to the main circuit board.

First unplug the mic
-Take down the mic
-Remove the three screws holding the plastic exhaust grill (the grill that exhausts air in to house... located front and top)
-Remove the two screws that hold the keypad
-Grab hold of the keypad and push up, then pull out.
-With the keypad out of the way look inside the mic you should see the 18v cylindrical ceramic fuse.
-Remove fuse, set meter to ohms and there should be no reading if the fuse is open (open means blown) if there is a reading it isn't the fuse... ???
-Reinstall new fuse... a 120v - 20amp fuse will do if you can find the original 120v - 18amp.
