Tecra S1 flashing orange light

Does it boot up so you can use it? If it boots up and you can use it then the flashing orange light might be telling you that your battery is low or dead. If it does not recharge when you have the power cord plugged in then either the Power Cord is bad and not charging the battery, or the battery has completely died and is out of it's useful life and has to be replaced.if it does does not boot up try the steps below.

When you plug in the power cord is there any lights whatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of the power cord? When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear the DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for a second or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason. Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with the laptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issue when you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problem is with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and take note of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short). Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoever when you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you was operating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cord is bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the power cord is bad. Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the battery out) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can put the battery back in and let it charge.

Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs into the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, Remove the cover that houses the memory on the bottom of the laptop then remove one of the memory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

Display freaks out

There is probably a false or intermittent contact at the display end. If the problem were in the generated signals, the whole display would be affected. A problem always in the same area of a LCD display usually means either the Berg strip or (if you're lucky) the driver cable has come slightly loose.

Since you've already opened the thing, I guess warranty considerations no longer apply. In the case of the Berg strip, perhaps the best home-made remedy is to get a strip of soft silicon foam or adhesive soundproofing, and place it against the strip so the non-adhesive area, once the screen has been reassembled, presses DELICATELY the strip against the display, preventing it from losing contact again.

Another, sadder possibility is that the driver lines inside the monitor went awry (this would explay why the screen reacts to power surges). In such a case there's unfortunately no solution, not even the "display massage" that sometimes fixes "stuck" pixels.

I'd rule out the external mouse as a coincidence.

Toshiba notbook tecra s1 model no 831l-1104l -- No Display

If you see a very dim image or black screen or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
Check out www.lcdparts.net for parts, repair service and DIY info.

When powering up I get 2 short beeps and one long one.

The beep code is signifying either improperly seated/ bad ram or improperly seated/ bad video card. Since you replaced the RAM I would say it would be a bad video card. Replace & reboot. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Toshiba tecra 9000 wont start

Blue screens are generally operating system failure. You will need to reinstall your XP home. Format the drive NTFS, instead of FAT32. If you have any problems during or after the reload, then the hard drive is the failure and will need replaced.
