Replaced lamp in 55vg825 approx 1500hrs ago &

bjac,

You are correct about lamps working or not, but that is the extremes. Over the course of operation all lamps lose brightness as the hours add up. All lamps will lose their brightness over time.

Typically lamps only last at best 6000 to 8000 hours. That is not long if the unit is used most of the day everyday. In addition the cheaper the quality of the lamp, cost and manufacture, the quicker they go down hill.

Assuming that you have a low quality lamp what you are experiencing is normal. You may be able to improve the brightness and clarity of the picture by cleaning the lenses, mirrors and screen. I have a tip at

http://www.fixya.com/support/r4690955-clean_lense_screen_in_projection_tv

This tip is labeled projection tv but is also appropriate for cleaning an LCD or DLP unit.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Blue spot started out small

You have a defective optical engine. The part will run you upwards of $1000 and is on factory backorder at the time. I wouldn't pursue any repair for this kind of investment, but...part number is UX25302R

I can't get my hitachi ultrvision to turn on

Hello,

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.

I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.....

Given the age of the television I would just use it until it doesn't work. tigerdirect.com just had 73" mitsubishi for 600$. Given the price you can get large tv's for these days It would not be worth it to repair a tv of that age.
Thank you,

Hitachi ultravision hd tv out of focus, shadows,

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hitatchi Ultra Vision 50UX26B

There are a few things in this model to cause this. Most common is the vertical circuit, or the regulator circuit for the power supply. both of these will run you $300-$500 if you call a repairman. If you know how to use a meter and solder I might be able to assist you in the repair yourself. The vertical circuit is VERY easy to repair if you know how to solder. Let me know so i can help!
