Water stain on the front of our Akai PT5499 Projection TV

Hmm... should evaporate on its own. The only way to access behind the screen is to take the whole back off the TV, and then inside theres another panel that covers the main reflector and screen. I wouldnt recommend doing that just for water tho.

All kinds of weirdness going on...

hi maybe your connections are poor try changing them and see if it works out but it sounds like a solders problem: they are dry or broken try and see if you give it a small tap on the side the picture shakes\dissapears\working good at last if soo then its that i guess that you dont have any electric background soo you will need to take it to a tech gay good luck

Akai PT5998hdtv sets goes on clicks and goes off

Do not panic! Do not throw your TV away like I wanted to! Here is what may be the solution for most of the members who have posted their complaints here recently. I am not an expert, but I followed all blogs from various websites and forums, and the conclusion was the same;replace the convergence board for this model. I purchased it from www.partstore.com and since this Akai is the same model as a comparable Samsung Model, buy the Samsung comparable Convergence board for $77. It came to about $85 after shipping. Call them if you need the exact model #. The Convergence board has two black STK ICs and two colors of wires, a gray kind and a blue kind, all which have 'pins' and can easily be unplugged from the circuit board in the TV. It is basically a complete system that takes less than30minutes to install. It is a simple swap procedure, with no soldering. You only need the new board and a screwdriver! Remove the lower backboard of your TV where the cables are plugged in (do not unscrew all the screws for the screen, as it is unnecessary, and might just damage your screen if you are not careful.) It has a u-like shape and comes off easy.Detach the gray wires connecting your old board to the rest of the circuitry, and detach the blue wires connecting the old board to the circuitry. On the old board, there are connectors marked, from left, blue, green and red. Detach those from the old board, and mark the wires so that you may connect the correct the wires to the new board. You then unscrew the only screw connecting the board to the TV,and unhook the board from the TV. Hook the new board to the hooks which held the old board, and screw the lone screw to the board. Plug the gray cables from the new board to the connectors where the gray cables from the old board were, and do so for the blue cables. Connect the multicolored cables to the blue, green and red, just as was done on the old board. Reattach the cover and test the TV. Please do not replace the two STK ICs only. When I removed my old board, I realized that there was a burn mark, where the ICs were, but maybe it was a fuse. You may replace the ICs only to discover that it was another problem.Good luck, and I wish you all thebest in the repairs. I just savedabout$100 for a repairman just to showup.

Double color and images

Try and see if a TV booster helps...This is especially the case if you are using an antenna to capture analogue signals.

I have a red and blue shadow in my picture

IT sounds like it needs to be degaused.
Before checking this, check for speakers placed by the set. this will cause it too.

The best way to avoid this situation is
  1. Don't place unshielded speakers near the set.
  2. Don't move the set while it is turned on.

The coil that is used is about $50 and can sometimes be found at industrial electronics stores. It's called a degausing coil. most TVs have a version of this built in and mutiple power on/off/ons may fix it, but don't hold your breath...

The trick is to turn the coil on with it right up to the screen. Move the coil in a big circular motion parallel to the screen as you S-L-O-W-L-Y move away from the screen. when you are as far away as you can get [about ten feet] turn the coil off. Caution. KEEP HARD DRIVES, CREDIT CARDS, AND FLOPPY DRIVES AWAY from the energized coil!

Good luck

Picture is suddenly "bowed" and the convergence is askewed at everypoint but center.

the problem is the EW cicuit of the deflection cicuit. this is a component level repair call a tech. the EW or East West correction is apart of the horizontal deflection. IC431 is the pin amp.
