The PC starts but slmost immediately resets before Windows runs.

There can be lot of bugs first it can be BIOS fault is that you turned on PC auto turnoff protection have you turned on the computer protection against overheating at very low degrees in the BIOS and it just turns off, or processor failure is because it`s too much is overclocked to much MHz for this type of CPU set by motherboard switch keys like I was have on my old PC as overclocking Spectrum Modulated sample will not work any example from the internet, but only on that what was been on motherboard printed, as in internet was been only one my model which one wasn`t worked by internet, as well as jumpers or BIOS overclock go as well can be wrong set in Thermo set, be sure that degrees is at least about 60 degrees in Celsius or your selected one but not like 40 degrees in Celsius, before it`s automatically turns off, I was tested it on my old PC and it worked good. There is homepage all you need your Official DRIVERS, for PC, BIOS, MANUAL: Shuttle Global SN95G5 If your Browser just doesn`t open this use Tor Browser, because Hackers always wished that some homepages doesn`t works, like that is especially necessary, so there is link to download this browser: Tor And as well there is another tips, answers from myself, how to repair PC: Motherboard won boot up cpu fan comes on hddI guess that you have Gigabit motherboard after that you have Gigabit LAN, it`s high speed, as well there can be only MSI without Gigabit motherboard on NVIDIA nForce 3 ultra witch can be checked at site:http://www.nvidia.com/content/motherboard_availability/us.asp, to acces BIOS just Press key immediately, or at the following message: Press DEL or or simultaneously press , , keys to enter BIOSd4838d75-4670-4ea1-9d25-f4ea59f09ee7.jpgAs we can see in picture how looks like BIOS menu when it is turned in SETUP mode, now we just need to go with arrows to Load Fail-Safe Defaults and press enter then press F10 SAVE to CMOS and EXIT (Y/N)? Y press enter, after that just do this again with Load Optimized Defaults for performance, and then check that all voltage is set correctly to RAM and Video card(It`s AGP that means AGP slot not as PCI slot like some NVIDIA video cards), if no PC will completely not work, see in picture:voltage-gyvf0pzbxyykkipel0m5jfoz-3-3.jpg as we can see default RAM voltage is 5V SBVIN to be worked it all after that go to PC Health Status to see how much is the real CPU temperature if it`s not after 100 degrees in Celsius all is fine witch cooling system see in picture:health-4cyml5j2fqseragbs510zyly-3-3.jpg As well temperature can be controlled by CPU Temp gag in PC Health Status tab see in picture:temp-kzjazhersgenbex1ytech0vu-3-3.pngafter all is finished just Save all BIOS configurations again and see what will happen I mean did it works.

HP Pavilion d4000 (d4495.se-a) cant find or see the USB ports, have reinstalled XP home, new backupbattery, check with Pd-doctor 3.0 -result test 4 CPU processor test, CPU Number 2 (Apic ID 01H) CPU

You could easily pick up an aftermarket USB PCI card, which will give you 2-4 USB ports that have their own logic chip. These are quite easy to install and very inexpensive.Another option would be a front-mounted USB hub, which would attach to the USB header on your mainboard. They come in 3.5" size (to go in a floppy drive slot) or 5.25" for CD/DVD size slots.Either of these should work fine as long as the rest of the PC is OK. If not, they are pretty much universal, so you could put in your next computer. (if it didn't work).Good luck!

I have just purchased a AMD Athlon? 64 X2 4400+,

It looks as though my resources were incorrect, as far as the two motherboards having the same processor socket.
(MSI RS480M uses a Socket 754)

What does concern me, is if the motherboard chipset used is the same. This was the stated information.

The motherboard chipset consists of the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.

Chip, and Chipset are slang terms for IC. Integrated Circuit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit

Viewing this motherboard diagram may help explain how the motherboard chipset comes into play,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

[You can also type, one at a time, Northbridge (computing), Southbridge (computing), Comparison of AMD chipsets, in the Wikipedia search bar, to gain more knowledge]

The Northbridge chip determines what Processors can be used.
It also controls high speed graphics technology.
AGP and PCI Express being high speed graphics, not PCI.

Determines what Ram Memory is used, and what Southbridge chip is compatible with it.

Let's go back to basics, and see what Northbridge chip is on your motherboard.
Two ways.
One, it looks as though you may be using a tiny program such as CPU-Z, or Belarc Advisor.

If not, I would advise downloading the free, tiny program CPU-Z from CPUID.com
Can you install the old processor, (AMD Athlon 2.25GHz), and get your computer to work, or are you using it now?

After you have CPU-Z running, left-click on the Mainboard tab, and tell me what it states for Chipset. Also tell me what it states for Southbridge.

Second way.
Physically look at the Northbridge, and Southbridge chip. IF, they are not covered with a heatsink.

The Northbridge chip is usually a large chip, and is located close to the processor socket.
Most configurations are like this; Processor socket at the top of the motherboard, ram memory slots to the right, Northbridge chip below the processor socket.

Motherboard designers put the Southbridge chip all over the place. There is no usual spot.

It is my belief at the moment, that your Northbridge chip will not support dual core processors, such as an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Only Single core processors.
Once I know what Northbridge chip you have, we can determine what your CPU support is.

Download the drivers to the computer you are using. Then burn them to a CD disk.

When you go to download the drivers, Note where they are going First. Write the name of the driver file down. Then look to see where it is going to be downloaded to.

See if it is going to your My Documents folder, (Documents in Vista)
(Start > My Documents for WinXP)
It may go to a sub-folder within the My Documents folder. Downloads.
Double-click on Downloads to see.

It may go directly to your desktop screen.
Have a fresh CD disk in the optical drive. (CD/DVD drive)
Right-click on the file name when you see it.
Left-click on Copy.

Then click on Copy to CD, or the name of your optical drive.

Windows running on the Systemax computer, put the CD with the drivers in it's optical drive.
Go to My Computer.
(Start > My Computer)
Left-click on My Computer.
Now double-click on the optical drive name (Letter. Example; (D:) drive)

Restore CD's

Here's what you can do (for Windows):

1. Prepare all of the restore/installation cd that you have. And check all of them for the kind of operating system, service pack, and version.

2. And on the computer, check the operating system, service pack, and version of the computer by clicking on Start button, select Run, and type in this keyword "winver" short for windows version.

3. A small window will show-up, it contains the windows logo, kind of windows operating system that you have, service pack, and version.

4. Match those information to the restore cd that you have. And look for the right one.

5. Install or Restore the computer that you want to be restored. Enjoy!

Thanks!
Your good rating will be very much appreciated!

Lightning Damage

Hi, if this is lightning damage then unfortunately you are up for a new router and pray that your mother board has survived.
To check motherboard, open case use a torch and study the capacitors in side. these are round objects that stand out from the board in rows of up to 6. if any of them show signs of bulging out the top or bottom then your mother board is also most certainly damaged and will need replacing.

Big problems.......

Since there is a lightning strike involved, there could be any number of problems. The first thing I would do is open the case and visually look for anything that looks burnt or any capacitors, etc., that may have "exploded." I would rule out a power supply problem since you do have the machine on. My thinking would be more along the lines of the motherboard, hard drive, RAM, or a combination so check these first for the above mentioned problems. The downside of this is that even if there is no visual damage, there could still be lightning damage that isn't visible. This makes lightning related issues hard to diagnose. I hope this will at least head you in the right direction.
