Roland Vs-2000CD Digital Studio Workstation System - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Roland vs 2000cd studio workstation/harddisk recorder.

I have figured out a way to get around this problem without losing your data or sending it to Roland. I have three roland 2480s and have 4 hard drives. Buy another spare drive and when you load up to a different IDE drive shut it down, then put the old drive back into the unit and it will boot from the last known ide. Make sure it is not the same IDE # that was giving you the problem. You will get at your files but you better start to backup and defrag. I will not delete files on my roland unless I am willing to defrag. Buy an extra drive from a third party. You can see a company that sells this stuff on ebay and they are very good. "VS something store."

My recording studio is stuck on the project load

Your VS-2000 is showing symptoms of fragmentation--resulting in the unit freezing or failing to completely load. The only possible solution is formatting the hard drive. Formatting erases all data on the drive. Note: If you have any files that you need to keep, you may contact our Roland Customer Support department (323-890-3740) to arrange a "Data Recovery" service. Our service technicians can attempt to recover any data that is in your hard drive. Customer Support is available M-F 8:30am-5:00pm Pacific time. CAUTION!!! Formatting the hard drive erases ALL recordings and data on the drive. This includes any installed plug-ins as well. Be sure to back up all of your project data (recordings) and plug-ins to CD/DVD(s) before formatting the drive. Unlocking the System: 1. With the VS-2000 powered off, press and hold the TRACK/STATUS button for track 4 and the FX 2 button. 2. With both buttons pressed, turn on the VS-2000's power. Continue holding the two buttons until the display has loaded completely. This can take several minutes. 3. Once the system has loaded completely, release the buttons. Formatting the Hard Drive: Note: The format steps below pertain to using the VS-2400's on-board LCD screen. If you're using an external VGA (video monitor), press and hold HOME and press F6 to switch to the on-board LCD. 1. Press SHIFT AND F1/PROJECT. 2. Use the CURSOR buttons to Select "IDE:0". 3. Press PAGE until "FmtDrv" is displayed above F2. 4. Press F2. 5. CURSOR to "Physical Format". 6. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial until "ON" is selected. 7. CURSOR to "Surface Scan". 8. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial until "On" is selected. 9. Press F5 (OK). 10. Press ENTER/YES twice.

Hi ,
I hope I can help you with your issue ,
the zip drive is either dirty or bad.
The zip drive has a drive spindle that could be not spinning correctly or the reading heads are bad.
Try a can of air to blow the dust out first.
or remove the drive and try cleaning the heads (not an easy job) .
here are the instructions for replacing the drive

On the vs

you do not need 8 out-puts..but a mixer ..and record all tracks in the same time ....in the mixer you will have separate settings and volume ...but the signal will be recorded all at once ..If you have multi track in this one ..use the mixer for the ones you do not make many changes ..in one track ..mixed ...and the ones that need more attention ..in the other inputs..but ..I know that this one already supports 8 separate tracks ...and yo can just use it like a mixer..and to record use only one out-put to the recorder..or computer ..

From one day on the

Looks as if you need to install the OS for the system. It seems as if it lost. You should have the OS on CD and if not contact RolandUS and get one. You would put in the OS into your CD burner and power up the unit. I would recommend Roland HD support be on the other end if you are brand new. They will walk you through. The manual is just insane to learn.

Its not a 2000cd workstation, it is a EM2000

Just a hint, but sometimes the displays have a USER setable parameter that affects the contrast. I have seen some that display is blank due to the setting. The problem is knowing how to reset the parameter without having a display. Search Google for "factory reset" for your unit.
On some musical units the setting is also called "viewing angle".
