Have installed Windows 7. My UMAX Astra Scanner

Yeah, bummer. Somehow scanners did not work with newer OS. If Umax does not have different drivers, you have to replace the unit.

I have a bel 515 radar scanner and i need to test it

There is a universal scanning software application called Vuescan, which works with most Mac and some Windows operating systems. This software, by Ed HHammrick, provides a user-friendly interface between a wide variety of scanners and your computer, even those scanners for which drivers are no longer available. Costs about $80 but worth every penny. I run an obsolete Linotron scanner with it. Recognizes transparency functions also. Awesome.

Umax astra 2100u will not

That's because Umax will not provide drivers for windows 7. Your scanner is unfortunately supported for windows up to XP.

My scanner copies have a vertical yellow streak

Lines or Banding Within the Image

If the scanner is generating lines or banding within the image during preview and/or scan, below is a list of possible solutions.

Horizontal Lines: If the lines run horizontally throughout the image, it is almost definitely interference of some kind. First thing to try is reverse the cable (Astra series only, except for 2400S), trying with and without termination as well. It could also be the SCSI card itself that is causing the interference. Try reseating it in a different slot, away from other cards. Try moving the scanner itself to another location, farther away from computer components such as monitors and CPUs. If none of that works, search for the file ?prescan.dib? on the hard disk and delete it, then try the scan again. If that still doesn?t work, follow the clean uninstall and safe mode install of our software. If these troubleshooting steps do not work, it could be a physical defect within the cable that?s generating extra interference, and the cable should be replaced. If the cable has been replaced already, it may be the UDS-IS11 itself generating the interference from being defective. Replace it.

Vertical Lines: If the lines run vertically throughout the image, it is probably a hardware problem, most likely with the scanner itself. However, follow the cable-reversing instructions above, remove the ?prescan.dib? file, and try the scan again. Often, if they are thin lines they are from dust within the optics. Open the case and blow out the dust with compressed air.

How do I connect the

That scanner is quite old now, and will require drivers for vista.. i wouldn't imagine that you could get vista drivers for it now unfortunately, which is a shame because that was a great scanner.

just out of interest, you could try googling "umax astra 2100u vista drivers" and see what comes up... i dont hold much hope though :-(
