2009 PC, getting old, it's not a virus in the BIOS ROM, sorry but is not.! it had stinking XP on it, so the virus magnet did is it always does. XP has over 700 exploits, end rant, upgrade it . the way to trouble shoot any notebook or laptop is get the big battery out. first. unplug it. if BIOS asks ODD. or dead. then make sure the coin cell reads 2.9v to 3.3v, less is bad.' then BIOS works, seems it does, just someone set the silly PW. and is BIOS password locked HP has a fix for this PW lock, and secret unlock, see last link below. possibles. bad HDD , run linux boot disk test. can you boot to usb stick with F9 or is F9 bios locked wish I could see it , or you tell all things that work or not. if bios f9 key works must how would you get to Gparted, my guess is you did boot to LINUX media and ran Gparted. so that leaves what?. F11 is dead, recovery part, erased. RIP XP for ever, yea. the OS is dead,? but hdd dead makes OS dead. so... so run the linux disk test and smart test first. if that passes then and only now can load the OS from HP media. next buy a new OS and install it of HDD is ok if not , new HDD and new OS time. i use UBUNTU disk (is use a usb stick iso linux), then boot it and click LIVE UBUNTU. yah. and then run disk test. like here. http://www.pcdied.com/linux.html the Pw reset is here, the real HP is here the real deal ask them, https://h30434.www3.hp.com/ they ask for service tag data.!!!

I purchased an HP mini

W7 CHECK ,a rare poster tells OS. thanks !there is nothing at all simple about wifi , it's not like plugging in a toaster.only this PC or CELL cant connect? do that first.does Ethernet cable connect work?what model linksys.?you disabled encryption in PC or the router,? (do tell)but wired mode is simple do that first.?in fact wired lets you update your wireless drivers.!!first see if the LT has a Ethernet jack on the side.that be first. if this works all is good, with internet and is only WIFI issues...Tests?do other PC or CELLS wifi connect at home to that unstated router?is it your linksys router or is it the ISP companies router, (matters)(if you cant log in to your router , it's not yours)grab and CAT5/6 Ethernet cable RJ45 plugs on end.connect, up, see the internet is not dead. if yes, call your ISP....next:(Ill pretend the ethernet cable works perfectly)is this ok>?I will do just 1 step, of 10. until you respond.most don't so...GO TO CONTROL PANELSTART + CONTROL PANEL.THEN PICK DEVICE MANAGERSEE THIS? This is my wifi chip, yours will have a different name Wlan = wifi in most casesthere are 2 network chips one is Ethernet other Wlan is wifi, make sure the driver is not missing or bad.if its bad, get the correct driver from HP, ask.!c9a00cba-70e2-4daf-a899-2373021e937b.jpg

I have hp 110 mini windows 7 laptop and the problem I having is that the laptop won,t charge its not the battery so what could be the problem?

Best hope that it's the charger. You should chack it if it chages. to do that you need some electronic testers that probably you don't have so should take it to a repair shop and heve it checked.

I have a HP mini notebook-does not allow updates because i have to go through the media folder. How can i fix this?

How did you reset your computer?, normally the operating system remains on the hard drive. If you deleted it, then you need to create a restore disk some how and use this to allow you to load the Windows 7 program from disk. See Microsoft for restoring Windows 7 here

What is the problem if no sound

It could be a driver related problem or a hardware defect. Try updating the sound driver in your computer. You can use RadarSync to automate it so that you won't need to manually look for the driver.I hope this helps!David

Dropped my laptop now 1 half of my screen is white and the other half is fine

Hardware damage1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port on the netbook. The VGA port is on the Left Rear side. This is an example of a VGA Cable, and VGA connector,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connectorScroll down a little for the VGA Cable example. NOTE* Color does Not matter. Usually it is Blue. Can be Black or White in color. You can use a CRT type of monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.2) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type of monitor allow it to warm up.Turn the laptop on.By factory default the display should show on the external monitor. However there are at LEAST 3 display options available;A) Internal monitor of laptop ONLYB) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitorC) External VGA monitor ONLYPress, and hold down on the Fn key, (Bottom left corner of Keyboard), and at the SAME time tap once on the F4 key.(The F4 key is the Display Toggle-Over key)No display on external VGA monitor?Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F4 key.Display good on the external monitor? Fine. Your graphics chipset is good. Problem lays within the Display Assembly, (LCD screen, Display Cover, etc), or the Video Cable. Also posted in case you do not repair the netbook, or repair is set for a later date. This way you can at least use the netbook at home.Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.Video Cable:The video cable attaches to the motherboard, in the upper left area near the left Hinge. It then leads under the left Hinge, and up into the Display Assembly.(LCD screen/ Display Cover, Display Bezel, etc. is the Display Assembly)From there it connects to the back of the LCD screen.(The Mini 110-3135dx has LED backlighting, and does not use a screen Inverter )Just due to normal opening, and closing of the laptop, the Display Panel Cable, (HP for Video Cable), can be pulled on.This means the connection of the Display Panel Cable, at the motherboard side could have been pulled loose, or at the LCD screen side.It can also damage the tiny wires inside the Display Panel Cable. From your description, it sounds like the Display Assembly was open, when it landed.Display Panel Cable connections should be PHYSICALLY, plugged in to ensure the connections are tight.A visual examination will NOT do.Connection on the motherboard side AND -> LCD screen side.If there is visual signs of damage to the Display Panel cable's sheath, also suspect damage to the tiny wires inside the Display Panel Cable. (Stretched/Broken)Check the connections first. You can leave the laptop partially disassembled, and check, before putting it back together. If physically checking, by trying to plug the two connections of the cable in, does no good, you have to suspect if the Display Panel Cable may be damaged.A continuity check with a multimeter set to OHMs, and checking each wire in the cable, is the next step of the diagnosis. You can take the cable down to the nearest 'Mom and Pop' computer store, and have the tech check it for a few dollars.Or due to the price of a replacement you may just wish to replace, and see if that was the problem. The HP part number is HP 607755-001.HOWEVER, this is supposed to be for a kit that contains 3 cables.1) LCD Cable (Display Panel Cable)2) Webcam Cable3) Power Cable.[ Power Cable:The DC Power Jack is the jack on the laptop, that you plug the AC adapter ( Charger ), into. The DC Power Jack is NOT soldered to the motherboard, with this model.Instead it is soldered to a cable of wires, and the wires end in a plug. The plug is unplugged from the motherboard, and the entire assembly is replaced as a unit. (It's a Power Jack Harness, really)DC Power Jacks get broken. This one will be easy to replace ]http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/LCD-video-Cable-for-HP-Mini-110-110-1000-110-1100-Laptop-LCD-Cable-6017B0207601-6017B0232102/908032_556440323.htmlCheck the part number on your Display Panel Cable, and see if it matches up to the one you are going to buy, is the best method however.Display Panel Cable checks out OK, or you have replaced it, and it doesn't solve the problem, the problem is the LCD screen.Again, in my searching of the LCD screen replacements, I found they all use LED lighting for your model. (Mini 110-3135dx)LED backlighting as a rule now, does Not use a screen Inverter.Could I be wrong, and your laptop does indeed have a screen Inverter?Only you will know once you open the Display Assembly, and check the Display Panel Cable connection at the back of the LCD screen. If a screen Inverter is used it will be in the Display Assembly.A screen Inverter could easily have been damaged in a fall, and a bad screen Inverter COULD show the results you stated.I say -> COULD.I believe the Display Panel Cable connection may be loose at the motherboard side, and/or LCD screen side, or it may be damaged. If not I believe the LCD screen is the problem. To check the Display Panel Cable on the motherboard side, for this model, you have to remove the Top Cover. (HP for Palm Rest Cover)This means the Static sensitive hardware components for the laptop, will be exposed. This means you NEED to wear an ESD wrist strap, once the Top Cover is removed.BEST method however is to just put it on BEFORE starting to disassemble. This way you do not forget, and have a Static shocked laptop, that is only going to be good enough for a DOORSTOP.One example,http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103245The alligator clip needs to be connected to a good ground source.I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case. You can also set a large metal serving tray (Unpainted), on the table you're working on, and connect to it.Or a large metal knickknack. (Unpainted)Pictorial guide that may help. Allows you to see someone working on an HP Mini,http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-keyboard-in-hp-mini-1033cl-notebook/Service Manual from HP Support (Free),http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4307901&In the list click on -HP Mini 110 and Compaq Mini CQ10 - Maintenance and Service Guide[ Note*On page 65 it shows the Wireless LAN cables. Number 6 states, "Disconnect the display panel cable from the motherboard"It is actually referring to the Figure on the next page. Page 66.And Number 1 ]For additional questions please post in a Comment.Regards, joecoolvette
