Since it is a dual DVD/Video player is the Video selected as active? You should have a button switching between DVD and Video!

Check DVD for faults like scratches or smears on disc, clean with appropriate solution and cloth. Red.

Is there a crack in the disk ?

the tape coming back out and unravels the tape means the loading mechanism is the problem----when a tape goes in it loads the tape down, then it pulls the tape out of the cassette and puts it up against the drum with the video heads-----many of these are belt driven and a bad belt or belts will cause this----it is called the loading and or transport mechanism.......when it fails the arms come back but the tape does not get rewound back into the cassette so it mangles it when the cassette door on the tape closes----most likely a belt or the drive idler which also rewinds and fast forwards the tape.

Since the machine is a newer model your/the universal remote may not have the code listed. what you can try is another magnavox machine's code that is listed with your uni remote's manual. This has worked for me before,hope this helps.

If you mean the DirectTV satellite system, the tuner in the Magnavox ZV457MG9A will not work. That tuner is for OTA (ATSC and NTSC) and CATV channels. You must connect the Composite A/V Line Out from the receiver to the Line In (front or back) of the recorder. Then, you need to select L1 or L2 (Line In, as needed) by pressing the Source button (at the top of the remote to the left of the Open/Close DVD button). So the TV might still get enough signal when the recorder doesn't.) It may be prolem with the tracker inside the DVD , Becoz ther may be some dust , and also th belt may hav the problem whill closeing and opening.

Every VCR has a transport mechanism that moves the tape-when eject is hit it reverses and winds the tape back into the cassette and closes the door on the tape BEFORE the tape exits the unit.It is not doing that so the tape gets mangled--bad belts, bad rubber drive wheel etc---all happen with age even if unit is not used much.Parts for these are getting hard to find--if any questions post a comment here.SD TECH
