If you are going through the HDMI input, it is most likely a compatibility issue. Check to see the Sharp website (http://www.sharpusa.com/CustomerSupport/ProductDownloads.aspx) and check to see if you have the latest firmware. If you do not see a later firmware available, just get a connector from the PS3 that outputs with component cables. The component cables will be 100% compatible.

Unfortunately, what you're describing is a repair issue. You won't be
able to address the problem with troubleshooting. There is a part
inside the TV that needs to be replaced. If you're under warranty,
this will cost you nothing. If you're not under warranty the cost
will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor. However, be warned
that the cost could be considerably higher. You should contact the
manufacturer for your full range of options.

LC-37G4U Power Light Is blinking
The power supply should be tested with voltmeter to see if it is working correctly. The capacitors in the power supply nowdays have extremely high failure rates due to cheaper parts.
You can purchase a service manual and a capacitor tester to test

The sound goes off intermittently
Forget Sharp's defective speakers. Connect your sound output to powered stereo speakers and disable the internal speakers (look through the TV's menu). The operator's manual explains how to disable the internal speakers. You'll be able to control the sound normally (mute, volume) with a remote control.
I connected my stereo output (2 RCA plugs) to an old boom-box and I get better sound than with Sharp's built-in speakers.
