When any DVD player stops reading commercial disks, there are only two things you can try to solve the problem:
- DVD lens cleaner. This is a disk that has small brushes on it that will gently wipe away any accumulated dust or debris that's on the lens that allows the player to read the disk.
- Resetting the player. Some players have a reset procedure that can correct issues that stop the player for working correctly. If the procedure is mentioned in the manual, contact the manufacture to see if one is available for your model.
If neither of these suggestions work, the player needs to be repaired.
Since some brands will
pay for your repair even if you're out of warranty, especially if
they've heard of your problem before and it's a known issue, you
should always contact the manufacture first for your full range of
options. If they're willing to fix the player for free, or at a reduced
cost to you, let them!
Whenever a DVD or CD player stops reading or loading disks, it means that something has gone wrong with the disk reading mechanism inside or a circuit connected to the mechanism. These days it isn't normally practical to consider repair unless you're in warranty because the labor cost alone will normally exceed the value of most players on the market. If the part is available and you're able to install the part yourself, you'd have to properly diagnose the part needing to be replaced which means being familiar with the brand and their service techniques. Unless you paid more than $150 for that unit, if the manufacturer isn't willing to fix it for free or for a small labor charge, it's time to look for a new player.
