unplug the dvd in to the tv, see if u have sound then...gotta read the manual. go into menu and see if what the sound is.. u might have to switch it to tv stereo or mono. gotta read the manual good luck

Does the " popping" noise come through the speakers or from the TV chassis ? If it is coming through the speakers you could have a bad solder joint somewhere in the tuning circuit. If it is a snapping sound coming from the chassis, then you probably have something arcing in the high voltage circiut. If this is the case then you should have it checked out since this can cause other parts to short shutting down you set completely.

That sounds like it is not booting properly. I would check for correct power supply opperation and if not that, look for a software reloading procedure in the user instruction manual.
