several types of connections possible:A unit with yellow, red and white is yellow is video, red and white are left and right audio.This is called COMPOSITE as all video/color are on yellow and red and white only for sound or audio.If the DVD has RED,GREEN, and BLUE the hookup must be to similar connections on the set---this is called COMPONENT and green carries the video and red and blue the information for those colors.Let me know if issues or questions as I am here to help you
Unfortunately, most VCR recorders/tapes don't have an 8 hour option. It is 2 hours on SP (standard), LP for 4 hours or EP (SLP, depending on the unit) for 6 hours. (The slower recording speed usually gives poorer video quality.) You would need a non-standard VCR cassette to get 8 hour recording. If you do have a tape that would hold 3 hours at SP, then use an EP setting to get 8 hours of recording on your VCR. I don't think I've seen any tapes that do that recording length even when VCRs were popular.I wish that I had better news.Cindy Wells
on some tv's the menu can be accessed by pushing both channel up and down buttons at the same time. otherwise you may just have to get an all in one programmable remote control.
there is what is called a "dew sensor" in a lot of vcr's that keep you from playing a tape if it senses moisture in the unit because a tape will stick to the video head and get all bunged up. sometimes they go bad and will keep you from playing a tape even when there is no moisture present. if your are electronically inclined you can take the back off and locate the dew sensor, then disconnect it. the constant whirring noise is the unit's way of trying to dry off the video head cylinder. the dew sensor, which is usally located behind the video head, is a dark grey thing about a half inch by half inch and has two wires going to it.
either use an old vcr to act as a signal converter or go buy an "rf converter" from an electronics store to change composite audio/video signal to channels 3 or 4 and that should do the trick.
if your tv has a headphone jack and your truck has a cassette player, they make an adapter in the shape of a cassette with a wire running out of it and a small jack that will hook into the tv and you should get sound out of your truck stereo. if no cassette player, then they also make an fm transmitter that will hook into the tv and then you tune your fm radio to the frequncy required. radio shack or some place like it usually carries things like this.
