What causes the sound to cut for a few seconds?
Hi i just would to know if you did try to connect your TV by HDMI to test if your optical output of your reciever/amplifier have some problem. In second time yes maybe you can have an overheating problem, just take a look at your grid and maybe a clean-up will be necessary. I don't think your amplifier have a fan.

Receiver power
This is a tricky one. Are you using the Onkyo for only the subwoofer or are you trying to amplify all the speaker outputs?

MY TECHNICS SHOWS F-70
Take a look at the bottom of the unit. Remove the access panels from under the amp ic section and look at the solder connections on the amp ic's. If they have round rings around them, they are bad and need to be resoldered. This can also happens on the voltage regulators that are on the heatsink with the amp ic's.
