Yamaha RX-V2090 Receiver Questions & Answers
Intermittant issue for a while
Death throes will become permanent the more it is stressed.
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.
Hellow, I own a rx-v2090
Sounds like from what you describe is that your speakers ohms might be to low for the Receiver and making it over heat.Take a look at your speakers ohms rating and then look at what your Receiver is rated for most receivers can handle down to about 6 ohms nothing lower. There are some out there that can handle lower but from what I can see about yours it handles about 8 ohms.
Zone 2 stopped working for no apparent reason.
I have the RX-V1065. yes there is alot of settings that can be messed up with one wrong click on the remote especially if u have kids. If this problem happened while it was playing and no one messing with remote could be equipment. I dout your wires were messed up or the speakers bad cause receiver has overload protection for that and would display it unless someone tripped over wires and they came unplugged "kids" But try checking all settings on receiver first. Good luck
Can I use AppleTV as one of the inputs/sources?
Since AppleTV does not have a composite output, you'd have to either buy a
converter (which is pretty expensive), or use a
software modification (the latter probably voiding your warranty and/or violating your AppleTV's EULA).
(There's also a
'trick' that might work, but you need to buy/borrow a HDMI-DVI adapter somwhere first to complete the procedure.)
Hope this helped,

Main speakers A and B not working...
Two possibilities for the no sound on the main speakers:
1) May be caused by the lack of the pre out main in jumper on the back of you reciever.
2) Check to make sure the -10db selector is not stuck between positions.
Is there any DTS decorder player that suit with Yamaha RX-V 2090? Thank you.
Try the Technics SH-AC500D Digital Surround Processor. Its outputs should match the inputs on the RX-V2090. I own both units, though I am using a DDP-1 with the Yamaha receiver. I use two separate amps with the Technics to achieve surround sound using my good vintage stereo system (two of them actually - one for front and ane for rear). The Technics is a nice piece of kit.
Turns on then shuts down
It sounds like the amplifier protection circuit is kicking in. This usually happens due to a fault in one or both channels. Check that your speaker wires are not shorting out - try removing them and switching on.
How to run outdoor speakers from my in house receiver
If you have a button for A and/or B speakers on the front of your unit,
then use the A (or B) speaker connections for the inside speakers and B
(or A) speaker connections for the outside speakers. Then of
course you just select either A or B depending on where you want the
sound to come out. If you select A and B then it will come out at
both locations. If you don't have A/B speaker selection available
on the unit, then you will need a speaker select switch (from Radio
Shack) or else wire up a four pole double throw toggle switch to do the
job.
