Machine will not sew its is looping under neath from top cotton

Remove the upper thread from your machine. RAISE the presser foot and then rethread from the beginning. Raising the presser foot releases the tension disk so the thread will seat properly). Also, verify that the threading steps are correct (consult the threading instructions). Check that the bobbin thread has been loaded in the bobbin case properly and threaded through the tension spring. Test. If the upper thread is still showing under the fabric, tighten the upper tension disk until the upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric. ...

How do I get a good running stitch?

Not specific to your machine - a secret to easier gathering is to drop the tension on the upper thread by 1 or 2 numbers before sewing that gathering line. Then, you pull the bobbin thread when you gather. It will gather MUCH easier. Just don't forget to put the tension back to normal before you start regular sewing again! Temporarily switch to another color bobbin if you're afraid you might forget which is which - you'll be pulling it out anyway. I think most people gather with a stitch that is just .5 mm longer than they're using for construction.

My machine goes along but no stitches

Not a lot of information here - was it sewing and then it stopped working? Or has it been a while since you used it? To troubleshoot, try a brand new needle and if you have any, some 100% cotton thread. Look up and make sure it's threaded exactly as they say to. Also, a needle in backwards would give that symptom. If you still have trouble, post your machine name and model # if you have one. Good luck!

make sure the bobbin winder on the top of the machine is all the way to the left. otherwise the machine thinks you are trying to wind a bobbin and sew at the same time.

The underside is sewing with loops and then gets

first try pulling all the threads out and rethreading. look for anything jamming the guides. try threading the top of the machine then cutting at the cotton real and pulling the thread out towards the needle, in the direction the thread should run. A good clean would not hurt.

Bobbin thread is phooey and loopy

Is it looping on the bottom of the fabric? If so it it probably a top tension issue, try this this quick test.

With the pressure foot up, you should be able to pull the thread easily right before the eye of the needle and when you put the foot down you should then feel a fair bit of tension on the top thread.

If you do not get tension with the foot down, check this:

-set the top tension dial to 5
-raise the pressure before threading the machine
-"floss" the thread by holding the thread as it comes off the spool with your right hand and holding the thread right before the needle. Make sure to do that with the pressure foot up. What happens is sometimes the thread doesn't go into the tension discs all the way due to lint or something else.

hope that helps,
Chris
