There may be a small "DRIVER" needed for the computer to "see" the sewing machine (*make sure machine is turned on!) when the cable is hooked up. (*could be a bad cable try another they are $2 at fry's) This sometimes requires more computer work to make sure the usb cable is connecting the embroidery machine to the computer correctly. This driver may be located on your Singer Futura Disk? this is not your program to run the singer machine but the one to connect the two so they can communicate embroidery designs and such. I had the same problem, go head with machine off and embroidery unit off also turn wheel toward you. If it still won't go try winding a bobbin that is what happened with mine it seemed to undo the stiffness. You can also take the cap off the wheel and make sure there is no thread wound around it.
Good luck if this does not work there are other tips but it would take all night to email all the steps.

In your case, I believe that the needle height is out of adjustment, and it's an easy fix. Insert a #14 needle, and make sure that it is ALL the way up in the clamp. You can determine that by looking at the shaft right above the clamp; the needle end should be resting against what looks like a grey bar. Next, take 10 pennies and stack them on the needle plate. Your machine's needle should JUST be resting under the needle; it should be a tight fit. If it's off just a "smudge," leave it alone. If it isn't, take the cover off the needle area, and locate two Allen screws on the needle shaft. The one that adjusts needle height is the bottom one, and you should only loosen by about 1/2 turn -- not take it off. Adjust to the 10 penny standard, then make sure that the eye is exactly to the font, then tighten.

no damage to the machine yet check the thread size you are using as you may have to use a needle with a bigger eye thread is made by winding the material around and around then using a product to hold the material ends together as a result thread will not last indefinitely and will break easily you may have to use only thread from manufacturers that you know make good thread

The design memory has probably been lost so there may not be any way of completing your design. In the future, be sure to use a good surge protector on your machine. It's well worth the price... ...

TURN OF THE MACHINE AND SWITCH IT ON AGAIN.

I found a solution that seemed to work for my setup (Vista-Futura 200): Go to the Futura support site www.futura-support.com . Choose "Service Updates" from the left-hand Menu. Choose "Quantum® FUTURA™ (CE-200) Owners running Windows XP Service Pack 2 operating system WITH one or more of the Options (AutoPunch, CrossStitch, PhotoStitch, and HyperFont) installed". Look for the bullet-point list in the explanations. It says there: "If you own the AutoPunch Option and you could not successfully install it, download the Service Update by clicking here." Select the highlighted link, download the patch and install it. Worked fine for me, I hope it helps you, too.

There is an update to give an x64 driver for the Singer CE-250 that will let you run on an x64. With the sewing machine not connected to the computer, install the software that came with the machine. Click OK at all of the "cannot run x86 build on a 64-bit OS" messages. When it is done, install the software from http://futura-support.com/products/ce-250/software . (The second one is for XP, Vista, and Win7 versions.) Accept the unverified driver (install anyway). After this completes, then connect the sewing machine to the USB port on the computer. Similar patches exist for the CE-200. I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the version number of your software. Make sure you have the latest software version. Current version you may check in About dialog under Help submenu and in the same submenu you wil find a function Live Update.
Also make sure you switch on the sewing machine either with the large hoop connected or without hoop. If sewing machine was switched on with the small hoop attached, it will provide this error message about wrong hoop.

Your CE 200 allows you to do very basic digitizing by using Autopunch. The color difinitions on your bmp. file should be clear, or your results will be poor.

To activate autopunch, click on "create" from the top menu and select "autopunch" from the drop down menu. A new Autopunch wizard menu should open. Click on "next" on the browse to your bmp. file by clicking on "select". Keep on clicking on "next" until you get to the "customize stitch block" menu. Here you are able to remove unwanted blocks or change the stitching order by clicking on a block in the right hand menu and the clicking on the "Remove", "move up" or "move down" buttons.

By clicking on the radio buttons, just below the "move down" button, you can also select between Fill stitch or Satin stitch. When you are happy with your decisions, click on next and click on finish.

That is about all that you can do and autopunch will do the rest. I suggest you import a couple of dfferent clipart images and play around as discribed above to make you familiar with the program. You will also see different results by changing options.

Could need cleaning and oiling. Access the moving parts an see if it is full of fluff and tiny bits of material fragments. Clean as best you can and oil in the specified places. If that doesn't help it work quieter, then the timing could be slightly out.

Based on your description and since your sewing machine is older, the motor inside your machine is probably drawing more current to maintain the same output power and all that current is passing thru the foot operated switch.. What that means is that your motor windings may be breaking down from age and use or the contacts within the footswitch may be getting carbon on them from passing more current than the original design called for and becoming resistive ( which equates to it getting hot). I suggest you discontinue using it until you have it maintenanced to make sure you aren't risking a shock or fire hazard. Sight unseen, it's difficult to draw any other conclusion.

In embroidery mode, you have to send a design to the machine before the bobbin winder will work.

without seeing the machine, here are my suggestions try a new needle rethread the machine--make sure to use every thread guide make sure the top thread does not come off the thread take up lever clean under the needle plate and in the bobbin area for lint make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin holder make sure the thread is not caught on the spool pin also could be a computer motherboard problem
