I have a singer 5040c and it won't do a zigzag

My wife just had this a similar problem with her Singer Omega 36 where she could sew straight and select patterns but could not zig zag. If you open the top of the machine you can see where a little lever connects to the white plastic pattern module that gets inserted in the top. The reason for the problem was that the lever was not touching the bottom of the module properly. The notches on the module cause the needle to move from side to side creating a zig zag. The module needs to be inserted correctly, by this I mean fully and the correct way around or it does not reach the lever when it is in the A position. At first inspection it looks the module could be inserted any way around but there is a thin and a fat clip. You need to try both ways to see which on sits lower in the machine. You may now need to adjust the tension on the machine as the lever will nowe move differently inside the machine. This fixed my wifes problem.

How do i fix a birdnesting problem with my singer

Try adjusting the tension. It sounds like the bobbin thread is too loose or the bobbin is not in correctly. Try taking the bobbin out and turning it around and putting it back. When you hold the bobbin in the fingers of your left hand and you pull the thread out with your right hand the bobbin should be turning clockwise. If the nesting persists, try ajusting the tension one way and then the other to see which seems to help. Hope this helps!

The bobincase springs up giving no stitch in singer inspiration

Try buying a new bobbin case, it probably was damaged by jumping out of position.

I purchased singer bobbins to use in my singer

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

Unless you want to deal with the little screws to take it apart, you may take it to an authorized singer service dealer. Look in your local yellow pages under sewing machines.

I have a Singer 5050 and I can't get the pressure

Set the foot under the shaft and lower the presser foot lever. The foot should snap on. Sometimes they can be contrary and you have to keep trying.

On some sewing machines there is an adjustment on top of the machine for adjusting the pressure of the presser foot and this sometimes confuses the term.
