How do I fix a timing problem with my singer sewing machine? The needle thread will not pick up my bobbin thread.
Here's how you set the timing od the Machine alright:
1. Take the side plate off, take the needle plate off.
2. Take the presser foot off, and put a new needle in the machine. 3. Make sure that the needle is in the lowest position and look at the needle bar for the two timing lines. Locate the top line.
4. Then, turn the handwheel toward you until the top line is where the bottom line was.
At this point, the tip of the hook should be directly in the scarf of the needle.
This should set the timing of the machine perfect....

I have an old Singer 5050 that I bought about 10 years ago and hasn't been used for quite some time until I got it out recently. It will straight stitch just fine, but it won't zigzag stitch at all. When I change the stitch width to any of the zigzag settings it just goes in a straight line. My stitch length is not at zero, either. What's the problem?
I have this same issue with that same machine. Did you ever figure out what was wrong with it??

I don't know what I am doing wrong...After I thread the machine either two things happen... the top thread wraps around the bobbin and immdeiately jams or the bobbin thread does not pull easy.
I am just trying to do a straight stitch and have my machine set: needle position center, 1, A, stitch width 3, tension 3
When it's threaded and the bobbin thread does not pull out easy when I sew you can see the top thread on teh underside of the fabric... I thought this was a tension problem but when I adjust the tension higher then the top thread loops around the bobbin and jams.
Have you checked the top thread is correctly placed in the spring of the bobbin case?

I am out of town and did not bring my manual and my singer has started messing up. It was doing well on the zig zag stich, but I have changed the thread several times and I don't know if I have missed something. It is loose on the bottom and tight on top. And I have several things to finish before I go home, so would appreciate any help.
Thank you,

I have the same problem. Driving me nuts. The tension dial is broken, as far as I can tell. Just craps out from time to time. Sometimes turning it on and off helps. I personally think it's a problem with the electronic controls.

I have a part that came off on the inside of my machine behind the
reverse button. The only way to get it back together is to take the
machine apart, I can't afford to take it to a repair shop, so I was
asking you all if you can help me find a download or a inexpensive
place to purchase the schematics or a service manual for this machine to show me how to break it down or take it apart so I can put the
little tiny nut and bolt back where it belongs. Can you help me please?
I have been searching the web for weeks and can't seem to find it.
I get lead to your site but can't seem to find out how to get the manual either. A response would be greatly appriciated.
try this site:
http://www.singerco.com/support/parts_charts.html
I don't think it shows your Model by number but it says Model 9800 is the same.. This is just a parts breakdown but you might be able to fifure out how to put the nut back on, once you know exactly where it belongs.

I am trying to do a zig-zag stitch around a letter to make an applique and my sewing machine keeps skipping stitches. I've already changed my needle and that didn't help. What else could be wrong. I doesn't skip when I am doing a straight stitch.
If you have put a new needle in then the chances are the machine has gone out of time, you can either take it in to the repair shop or you can contact me and I will attach timing instructions [email protected]

I am looking for a free manual for a Singer 5050C machine
Go to
http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html
There's a "free download" option there - I used "5050" for the model number, the "C" seemed to confuse the search engine.
If I can be of further assistance, or if you have questions about any of my response(s), please let me know before rating me.
If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly. My goal is to earn a "Very Helpful" rating from everyone I help.
Thanks for using Fixya.com,
Jon

I took my bobbin and bibbin case out of my singer 5050 and now when I try to insert the bobbin case back in the machine, it keeps popping up. I have bought a new bobbin case and am still having the same problem!
have you tried a new bobbin, some machines only take certain bobbins..
