The age of the Nutron is not the issue, unfortunately. I have seen problems with this model right out of the box. The joystick control is the first area to check. If you have to compensate the joystick so far to the right to correct, you may have a damaged joystick gimbal. You may also have a bad joystick control board or damaged connecting cable to the controller on the bottom frame. Check for damaged, pinched loose or disconnected wiring below at the controller module. With a folding frame it is easy for the wiring to be become damaged or dislodged. Check for cut damaged pinched wiring at the joystick. With a handheld programmer (dealer) you can check for error codes in the fault log. With a poor performance issue there may not be a fault recorded in the log of the computer module. I have also seen these motors fail prematurely. In this case your left motor is dragging or weak causing the chair to go left. With a programmer (dealer tool) you can compensate for this while waiting for new parts(temp fix). Sometimes the motor brushes burn or hang up. Try blocking up the chair off the ground and run it no load to check for motor performance and unusual sounds. Check for joystick dead spots or uneven action. A quick check of the joystick would be to plug in a known good one at the dealer to test. With the chair blocked up try tapping the motor housing to see if the performance changes. Inspect the brushes if you have access to the brush caps.Check the obvious first, plugs, pinched, broken wires and partial plug disconnects and corrosion. If you have a voltmeter you can do some checks on the motors and brakes. Going from memory, the motor leads large black and large red should read zero ohms with the 2 small white wires for the brake reading between 60 and 70 ohms. Check the Invacare manufacturer website for exact specs and technical info for this model.

Ok the heating up part means that there is something wrong with the power ciruit itself, chances are something is outputting more power than it should, disconnect the joystick box and see if the motors heat up, I'm betting it wont. The reason being that the joystick box has several switches in it, 1 or more of them is feeding power back to the ground which then transfers it to the motor causing cavitation in the motor circuit it self, e.g. Forward and backward at the same time, but since u push foward that gets more power so it moves or vice versa., Once you verify the above I dont think you need to replace the entire box, but clean the contacts or change the switches, only then change the box if the problem persist.
Now 1 symptom of the above is a reduction in power (the chair now isnt as fast as it should be)
Fixing the above will fix all on that. Please let me know after you have the shop check these things out.
What flash codes mean
They are diagnostic codes to help troubleshoot a possible problem with your wheelchair. The lights blink in patterns. You have to count the number of blinks and what color they are.
24v dc motors can it run at all with 12vdc
Sure. Just slower.
If you remove the motor from a power wheelchair to use in other applications keep this in mind; these motors are designed for PulseWidthModulation Speed Control (apx. 10kHz) with a feedback control to keep the speed more consistent. Feedback and pulsing is key to power and efficiency. If you run them at 12 volts without a pulse control the current to power output is much higher and the I*I*R (I squared times R) losses are higher - dissipated as heat. The motors will run very hot under a load with DC that isnt PWM'ed.
If the use/cool down duration is short you should not have issues.
My Invacare TDX SP has died on me and someone told me of a trip switch on the batteries..Anyone know where this switch is as all I can see are bolts and metal?

First check if you have power present at the charging port. If you have power (24 volts) then the batteries and wiring are not the issue. If you don't then check the battery post fuses. These are "L" shaped brackets with a white square fuse held on the positive post with a through bolt and nut. On older chairs these are known to become loose and or blow just when you need power or stop suddenly.
Also check the big Anderson connectors at the power point at the end of the battery box. Check for solid connections. If there is 24 volts here to the control box, next check the controller connector.
If there is +24 at the controller connector but 0 at the joystick charger port you have big issues. Either the traces connectors in the controller are fried or your joystick has major issues.

Reversing the polarity:There are 3 wires on the Wig Wag Assembly. (reverse the wig-wag function) simply de-solder the 2 outer wires & swap their position & re-solder.I would seek a price for doing the job from an approved scooter repairer,unless you are comfortable doing the job yourself.I hope this has helped,Colin

most manufacturers will NOT supply you with that, very difficult to get, FDA has strict guidelines on who can repair and maintain power chairs. what is the problem with the chair

What would cause the display of the message "MPJ
This display message can be caused by some of the following:
Joystick out of neutral at start-up.
Bad or broken joystick gimble.
Bad or uncalibrated joystick gimble.
Bad wiring harness or connector from joystick
Internal joystick electronic component problem.
Bad communication chip in joystick.
Incorrect programming of the joystick
The most direct test is to run the joystick gimble in circles and forward, back, left, right, feeling for bad or dead spots and uneven action. Look at the position in neutral: left,right, forward ,back should be in alignment. A bad gimble is inexpensive and straightforward to repair.
Inspect the wiring for cuts, pinches and bad pins on the mating connectors.
With a hand held programmer (HHP) plugged into the main harness or charging port you can read the fault log. That way you can make a definitive diagnosis. You can also calibrate the joystick with a HHP and adjust the programming parameters.
If the chair powers up but the batteries are low you can get unusual electronic problems so test the voltage with a digital voltmeter. Voltage should be between 24 and 26 volts. It is possible but less likely you have a bad controller. Again, the HHP will read the register of all faults to help you determine the cause of your problems.
Check the obvious first and then swap out the joystick with a known good working one to determine definitively that the joystick is your problem. Hope this helps.

This problme is caused by a bad battery. How long have you had the scooter with the same battery? Is time to get a new battery that one can not hold batteries any more. Go to google.com and search for the model and battery.

Jhester Well You just need new batteries. Does the chair come on when you diconnect the charger and does it move? If you don't have all the battery level lights lit up when you turn it on then the batteries are too low for the charger to pick up. No lights no power New Batteries Hope this helps
Heavy steering on my s/h sungift 200,ok when
Hi Dave. I have had a few scooters that have had this problem. Most of them had the bearings tightened up to tight. Either the bearings on the steering column, or the bearings in the left or right stub axles. Just loosen off very slightly will help. Make sure that there is not too much movement in the bearings after adjusting them. Also give all the linkages a bit of a lube.
We are Invacare sales and service agents here in New Zealand, but I have never heard of this model.

Clicking, first noticed on carpeted surfaces.
Clicking from the tires is usally due to one of two things. First, check to see that the nuts holding the wheel onto the axle are tight by removing the plastic cover and tightening them as hard as you can. Drive and see if it quit clicking. If not, check the air in the tires; they should be kept at the stated range on the tire. If they are foam-filled, flat-free tires, these can often click when the tire chages against the wheel. It doesn't affect the safety of the scooter but can be annoying. Spraying some WD-40 around the rims inside and out will often clear it up. If not, you'll need to pull the tire and tighten the 4 bolts that hold the split-rims together.
M1V R11 Joy stick blinks 5 times
I believe this fault code indicates a left parking brake fault. Check all the connections from the motor/gear/brake assembly on BOTH motors (sometimes the controller gets confused). Follow the wires from the motor to the controller and reconnect them all. Make sure the free-wheel lever is in gear by taking out of gear, and placing back into gear firmly.
